Elizabeth Chambers hails originally from a small town in Leicestershire, England, though now she lives in near Wembley stadium, London, England with her husband and two boys. She adores sunsets in the park, watching the trees change throughout the seasons [I don't think I could trust people who didn't love this transformation!] and abstract forms of art [which as we all know is my way of life - via the double vision, haha].

*** Shop names are so important and personal; where did you get yours from?
My shop name unfortunately is not so personal; it's my name, a little bit of Christine Aguilera and what I do. Lizzesbeautifulart!

*** Where do you find that you get your inspiration from?

That’s easy ~ everywhere and anywhere you look there is something to draw and make into an abstract image! Children’s books are great as there is always so much character in the illustrations; I especially like Catherine Rayner.

I'm quiet mainstream with artistic inspiration - Salvador Dali, Jackson or Paul Pollock, Rene Magritte, Picasso, Vincent van Gogh, ,Leonardo de Vinci,-( they're kind of the obvious but I still enjoy their work). Then there's Rolf Harris (I love his abstract work that he does with the large brushes) and a big favourite Govinder.

*** How do you keep up your motivation?
I look after the children during the week so I don't get much time to myself, so as soon as I get a bit of time I make sure I head to my drawing board, most of the time I have something on the go so I'm always dipping in and out. I also have a book to keep all my ideas in, so when I have finished one project all I have to do is have a look in my book and choose another idea to follow.

*** Do you see you art and shop as a reflection of yourself; your soul?
I think I would have to answer yes - as I never paint anything I don't enjoy and the items that I do paint that don't meet the mark get put to one side and classed as 'practise' or an 'experiment' depending on what it is!

*** Where has this artistic journey taken you so far?
I enjoy painting cats and landscapes but whilst doing my art classes I have been made to paint portraits which I find difficult. However, despite that, I actually enjoy being pushed out of my comfort zones; I think it's always important for progression.

*** Does Art enhance your life?
Yes it makes me happy and takes me away from all of those normal everyday worries that we have; it gives me the head space that I think we all need from time to time.

*** Can we have one pearl of wisdom you have learnt along the way?
Make sure you stick with the job that you are doing, do it fast and don't get distracted along the way, - I find that if you stick to one job you get more finished.

*** How important is feedback to you?
Its always important to know what people think and to make sure that you are getting right, or if there is anything that you can make better.

*** Are you a member of any teams on Etsy - does this help?
Yes I am members of many teams but I have signed up for the daily e-mails from British sellers on Etsy, Etsy's UK and Ireland Support Team and Etsy Success. These give me enough information to assist the direction of my shop and make sure I'm doing the right thing.

*** How do you feel about your life right now?
I love my life! Even though I haven't got many pieces on Etsy, I enjoy painting and getting the views and favourites for my shop. I don't have lots of time with my children being so young but being around for them is the most important thing for me.

*** Dogs or Cats?
Cats I have always grown up with cats and I don't like the smell of dogs or picking up poo! Don't get me wrong I know that my cats do smell and they annoy me by digging up my flowers but it doesn't bother me. I also like the independence they have and how well they have adapted since the kids have come along. I'm hoping in the future to have some chickens in the garden for eggs and hopefully they will eat the slugs that keep eating my home-grown veg! [Nothing beats growing your own!]

Books, I LOVE books

I am in love with the written word, the magical place that only a book can take you, intimately and secretly. I love the feel of the pages of a book and the front cover art; I love old books with that musty smell, their embossed covers so beautiful. I love print, typeset, the length of chapters have to be just right, the margins and the line spacing. I love book shops full to the brim of tangible, liftable, flickable information; neat and ordered or everything laying higglety-pigglety on wonky shelves and in piles on the floor.

My love affair began when I was very small. Once I got over the stage where I had to have a bag with me at all times containing colouring pencils and various plastic farm animals, I and my imaginary friend Barney just loved nothing more than a good book. 'The Very Hungry Catepillar' was our all time favourite.

Now I live in a home which could probably lose a few walls and still be habitable, we would just replace them with some of our vast and ever growing collection of paperbacks and hardbacks and journals and coffee table books. I love books. In fact I kid you not, this very morning my copy of York's notes on The Odyssey plopped through the letter box :) I studied at it uni but I would need some refreshers on the intricacies.

So what am I telling you this for??? Well, as is the right (nay, duty!) of every arty, creative person I have become obsessed in a topic and am about to explore it to it's fullest. In reaction to my best friend getting a, a, (I can barely bring myself to write it) a Kindle!!! I am retaliating with a full blown campaign to LOVE YOUR BOOKS. I shall be taking more photos of books, I am at present making a pretty book mark (the details of which are devilishly clever and kept me awake last night)...needless to say it involves felt, embroidery and....I have said too much already! This is first of many and dearly hope you like them and want them and will use them tenderly with your books...

I shall return with news, pictures and possibly another rant :)

*** Shop names are so important and personal; where did you get yours from?
OMG ! Do I really have to explain ? mmm, it is a bit embarrassing.....It took me ages to find something I like and feel comfortable with. When I was a student, one of my nicknames was Cat, which was better than people not being able to pronounce my first name Catherine with a French accent. The R seems to be a problem … Kali comes from a Greek work, which means beautiful / beauty. So I put both words together and Voila! my name Kalicat

*** Where do you find that you get your inspiration from?
People, songs, colours, poesy (poems), gemstones, wallpapers …
I have a vision of my clients being someone who is chic and stylish in all occasions. A woman or man who is confident, feels great in their own skin, who enjoys mixing styles : Vintage with modern, a classic tailored suit with mad statement jewellery… some with their own individuality and able to set their own trends. My collections are therefore versatile and can be mixed together or worn in different occasions with different attires.

The Volutes Cuff

For example, the Volutes cuff, which has been photo etched for 7 hours, is ideal as a Bride’s adornment, also as a classic jewel for the office with a tailored suit, in the evening with your favourite LBD (Little Black Dress), it becomes a party or cocktail piece and as an everyday wear with jeans and a cashmere top .

*** How do you keep up your motivation?
Oh la la ! There are days with and days without. Then, all I need is to recharge with a holiday in the Caribbean. Laying down on the beach under a palm tree, on white sandy beach, drinking a cocktail in a coconut or pineapple with a little paper umbrella by the side always does the trick. [hahahaha, if only!]
If that is not possible, just eat chocolates (Neuhaus’ are delicious), listen to music, wear great perfume, play some saxophone and dance . That works just as well (almost). :)

*** Do you see your art and shop as a reflection of yourself; your soul?
Although I tend sometimes not to really see it, I must admit that yes, it is definitely a variation on the theme of Moi , myself and I. I also like to have fun and it can be seen in my some of my jewelry creations like my mice necklace...

I like feminity. Check out this large enamelled pendant which was inspired by a classic painting, featuring 15 layers of enamel .

*** Where has this artistic journey taken you so far?

I trained in sciences maths, Physics and IT as well as music and arts.
My visual journey is quite varied; I have done a spell as an art director in an advertising agency, As an art teacher and tutor , as a printmaker, an artist, a fashion illustrator, a tableware designer, a curator, setting up children and adults workshops, life drawing classes... and now as a goldsmith creating with precious metals, gemstones and pearls. [wow!]

*** Does Art enhance your life?
Yes, definitely. I have never been without art around me and it fuels me as being part of my essence.

*** Can we have one pearl of wisdom you have learnt along the way?
Listen to your gut instinct ! and the Nike (Goddess) motto: Just do it! A bit like the Lottery: only those who play can win! Oh and most importantly, always eat the best chocolate !

*** How important is feedback to you?

It is invaluable. I love the constructive criticism. It helps you progress and gives you an insight of how others perceive you and your art. Although I would say to be careful with feedback from friends and family as they sometimes want to avoid hurting your feelings and may not always tell you exactly what they really think.

*** Are you a member of any teams on Etsy - does this help?

I really enjoy being part of a few Etsy teams. It creates a supportive environment and friendship across continents which is really nice. I like helping and encouraging others and It is also a great way of getting feedback from a community of creative people who understand what you are trying to achieve and can provide sound advice. It is like a hub of mentors available at any time .

I am part of FrenchHandmade and UKhandmade which are both wonderful, vibrant and very active communities.

*** How do you feel about your life right now?

I like my life. I have a wonderful husband and 2 lively boys who make me laugh lots. They (aged 5 and 7) believe they are teenagers and adopt some of older children’s attitudes which they deem as “Cool “.

My goal for 2011 was to implement a shopping cart on my website. 2012 is about getting stockists online and off line.

Also, I wish I had just more :), more Jewels, more shoes, more skills, more children, more handbags, more time for my friends and family, seen more cities and countries far far away, more features, I would like to speak languages with a different alphabet like Japanese, Russian…, celebrities to love, purchase and wear my creations, collaborations with other talented creative ...

*** Dogs or Cats?

All cats, as long as they purr lots and do not scrape my sofa/shoes…too much. Sonny, the cat I had in Paris, used to go around the balconies and bring me back pigeons ! He always looked mystified when I released them.
And BIG dogs. They are a pleasure to deal with and double as big teddy bears/blankets/pillows and even horses (for toddlers) LOL! I am particularly fond of Boxer and Newfoundland. They are so well behaved with young children and cats and also do not bark too much. Mine used to be able to catch crepes (French pancakes) mid-air when I was flipping them!

I LOVE the website Kind Over Matter and have read it now ever since I really got into the internet. It's one of those places that inspire me and give me hope. I have even printed out beautiful posters for my study and fun compliment posters which I have cut up and left for people all over the place - you'll understand when you go there...

I sent a request for people to interview from amongst the wonderful ladies of the fPoE pool, (which ROCKS!) and had to instantly say "yes" to Mandy from Detriot, MI, in the USA. She's called 'Ginger Mandy' and I think it's the coolest name! Here I confess that I love Ginger both in food form and most differently as a hair colour. [My hubby is Ginger I love it and it was a major factor in those early days of romance, hahaha] But this is not about me *coughs embarassedly* this is all about Ginger Mandy and her stunning art; there is something so appealling about her shop, is it the love of colour?, the use of everyday items?, that American blue sky?........ Whatever it is, I am ever so slightly in love.

Hehehe I always start these interviews with a picture of the Etsy shop banner ;)

*** Shop names are so important and personal; where did you get yours from?

I've been a blogger much longer than I've been a photographer, and my blog name has always been "gingermandy" because, well, red hair and my name :) when I started a shop I wanted to keep it easy and familiar since I previously blogged so much of my photography, and since gingermandy is pretty much my entire brand, I decided to just keep it that. Plus, everyone I've met through blogging just knows me as "gingermandy."

*** Where do you find that you get your inspiration from?
Everything! Since I started doing photography in January 2011, I've realized it allows me to look at the world a little differently. I actually appreciate nature now and take time to observe and enjoy my surroundings. Also, things I enjoy such as coffee, candy, and wine (healthy I know!) I look at them as inspiration and create still life photos with it. I figure if I love something, why not turn it into a piece of art?

*** How do you keep up your motivation?
I'm a freelance writer and I work from home, so when my day-to-day work has me feeling tired, bored, and run down, I put on some music, make a pot of coffee, and get out my camera. If I don't feel like going out to the park or by the water, I'll rummage through my "inspiration bin" in my apartment and do some still life photos. My "inspiration bin" is full of random toys, confections, lights, backdrops, and anything else that could work into a cool photo. I guess it's like Mr. Dressup's "tickle trunk."

*** Do you see you art and shop as a reflection of yourself; your soul?
Sometimes. My thing is that I don't really have a niche or specific style I stick with, so to me, there are times where I look at my shop and it seems so scattered. However, I like diversity and having a lot of options, and when I look at some photos, I remember that time in my life and what inspired me to take or create them. So even though the photography in my shop is very diverse, it's all a reflection of me, memories I've had, and things I enjoy.

*** Where has this artistic journey taken you so far?
I've gone from snapping random nature photos in my mom's backyard to actually opening a shop with 50 items, and now I can't see NOT having photography in my life. I keep thinking of ways to expand and grow, and eventually I'd like to offer other merchandise made with my photos such as notebooks, magnets, postcards, etc. It's always taking my mind somewhere, and I love it.

*** Does Art enhance your life?
Yes. I would be the most boring person in the world if I couldn't do the things I do now.

*** Can we have one pearl of wisdom you have learnt along the way?
Take every opportunity you get that seems like something you'd enjoy. If the "me" I know from 5 years ago got into photography like I am now, I would have been too intimidated to sell and promote my work because I'd always feel like I'm not good enough, and when opportunity arose, I'd be too shy or scared to take it. Be proud of what you do, and own it.

*** How important is feedback to you?
I have gotten better about taking feedback in a positive way rather than as blatant criticism (although it's also important to decipher the difference between the two). All feedback should be considered, and even if the person was a jerk about it, they are telling you what they're telling you for a reason, so take it for what it is and consider ways it can help you improve. All feedback has its benefits. Even if it's to help you realize there's nothing you can do about people who hate your work.

*** Are you a member of any teams on Etsy - does this help?
I'm a member of a few photography teams and local teams. As far as promoting my work it doesn't seem to do much, but I've gotten some invaluable advice from the forums. I was recently invited to display my work as the "featured photographer" at a local handmade shop, and asking questions on the Photographers Of Etsy page gave me all the info I needed about pricing, setup, where to buy mats and frames, etc. Joining teams local to your city and state is a great way to meet new people and find out how you can sell or promote your work locally.

*** How do you feel about your life right now?
My life is in such a great place right now. Work is good but always changing, my camera is functioning well (always important!), I have an incredibly supportive boyfriend, and a cute and inspiring studio in my favorite city in the world (Detroit!).

*** Dogs or Cats?
Dogs! Well, both, but I've never owned a cat. They're still cute, though [Symbol]

taking a break

My health or lack of it is dictating that I must take a break for a little while. To continue to plow on with Cherry Blossom Tattoo is overwhelming, to give it up is unthinkable. I see darkness to the horizon and beyond, all feels so desolate, I am engulfed. The two sides of me are fighting and each are losing their own battle, I am suffering and tears prickle at my eyes.

Sadly I have had to relinquish control and take a break from all this. I need time to regain calm, to find my focus and to find my energy for the journey once more. I do love this path of communication and expression through photography but my health must come first and my brain is right now frazzled (a technical term I am sure).

I shall still do the Sweet Etsy interviews and chat about Simon's adventures but forgive me as for a week or 2 I don't post new works or talk about my new ideas. I just need a little head piece. I'll be fine and dandy but it is a hazard of every person who is trying to make art and maybe self sustain the process - there simply isn't the money out there at the moment and I feel I am fighting the waves in the sea with my bare hands; exhausted, numb and confused.

Rest can be the hardest gift we can bestow upon ourselves, taking ourselves out of the loop for a short while to recharge, it feels like failure. But it is what I must do. Wish me well. I shall return rejuvenated xxxx

The name came to me almost automatically one day, and without giving it any thought. As it came to me, I just knew that it was the right name for the shop. It is about expressing and sharing meaningful creations from the heart with purpose and intent.

*** Where do you find that you get your inspiration from?
I am inspired by living, everything around me through daily experiences, feelings, reflections and my own self awareness. I am also inspired largely by nature and animals, they always allow me to dig deeper into my sense of self and motivate me to shine.

*** How do you keep up your motivation?
If I don't create each day I let my inner self explore and find out what works and what doesn't. I love experimenting and if I get an idea I always follow it through. I also allow space for non-creation where I am just at peace with inner self, that is when the best creations are formed.

*** Do you see you art and shop as a reflection of yourself; your soul?
Thoroughly, everything in my shop is a reflection of my own inner world, and it brings me joy that it makes others happy too.

It has led me to share my work with others around the world through the opening of my online Shop, and to bring a smile and warmth to people.

Art is a way of being, and by being, it is expressed in every form whether through creation or a simple gesture.

To know that every moment is an opportunity to always learn something new about yourself, and that you have permission to find out more about yourself at any given time. Through creativity you can give yourself permission to do just that, and allow what comes through to surface in it's own moment, as every creation has a purpose, when you allow yourself to trust.

It makes me happy to hear how my Art affects other people, it brings a warming to my heart and it inspires me to bring out more of myself on my own journey.

Several and they are a great support system. I see each as a community and I love the way in which you can share your experiences and journey with everyone, and how everyone is always there for you.

I feel a great peace, when everything is at a balance and that is very important for me, seeing as I am a Libra.

I like both. We have always had animals, and I appreciate and love each unique animal as they are because they have such great personalities, just like humans!

2 utterly fabulous people and a sneaky peek into tomorrow's post

This week I have been blessed by the amazing generosity and kindness of two ladies. I just thought I would share the gorgeous gifts the the postman has brought to my door and which are cheering my soul as I write.

First there was a package from the lovely, talented and unbearably sweet Missy Corrales. Missy was a participant in the last 5x7 photo swap I organised through the Female Photographers of Etsy Team (or see blog button link below). This was the 3rd one I've done and I love them. Though in saying that I really need to do a survey of those who took part to see if it went well for everyone.

Anyway, even though Missy wasn't one of my swap partners, she sent me this gorgeous print and these cards (which, sorry penpals of mine, I'm keeping!). Completely unnecessary of her to be so generous but boy, I love them. Her work is beautiful, so calming and peaceful. The print has a home in my mind (the stairs) - I just need to get it framed. Thank you Missy for renewing my faith in the kindness of (relative) strangers. You Rock!

Then yesterday Spring arrived outside my front door courtesy of my best friend Rosemary. A huge bunch of sunshine and hope - Tulips. I am in love with Tulips. These have put some light back into my soul, these dreary winter days are so tiring. Thank you sweet, wonderful friend - how I love you. Couldn't do without you!! I really must get some macros done tomorrow - you have brought sunshine and the Muse back into my house xxxx

Note - utterly dreary day, I think the whole of Northern Ireland is just in one huge white, drizzly cloud today.

Lastly (these were all supposed to be different posts but I have been very naughty about my blogging habits this week - sorry).....I took a wee trip up to the Harland and Wolff docks on Saturday afternoon. This year is the centenary of the Titanic disaster and I wanted to get a couple of photos. I must say, I am a little disappointed with the desolate nature of the place.

It is really just trying to keep it simple and something that keeps it a bit personal and that is how I came up with my shop name!

Everywhere – books, magazines, tv, internet, blogs. I think you have to be open to everything and you never know where you are going to see something new you could use as a colour inspiration or a shape inspiration.

*** How do you keep up your motivation?

That is the hard part – when someone tells me that my stuff is nice then that is massive! If there is a nice tweet, or comment on facebook – it does mean a lot to know that someone else, someone ‘real’ thinks your work is good! I have had only one sale on Etsy so far, but I’m optimistic – once I keep making improvements to photos for example, that things will pick up eventually.

*** Do you see you art and shop as a reflection of yourself; your soul?
I don’t know if it’s a reflection of my soul but it sure makes me happy and relaxes me after a busy running around after my little angel it calms me down! It’s also great thinking time – I’m lucky that I only need to concentrate on it when complicated stitches are happening so I can get a lot of thinking done which is nice!

*** Where has this artistic journey taken you so far?
On the internet – to many exciting places and I’ve met many exciting and lovely people!! In the real world, I’m at the beginning of the journey I think so I am all prepared for any adventures ahead!

*** Does Art enhance your life?
Knitting, which I would call my art, relaxes, calms and focuses me so yes it certainly does enhance my life. There is nothing quite like the buzz when you have finished stitching up a garment and it looks great and you can say ‘I made that’!

*** Can we have one pearl of wisdom you have learnt along the way?

Don’t be afraid to change, or make things better. You never stop learning. [I LOVE this answer!!]

*** How important is feedback to you?
Very – not only does it let other people know that you are good to deal with on Etsy – but for me it’s a great indicator that someone likes your product which is motivation to keep going!!

*** Are you a member of any teams on Etsy - does this help?
I am a member of the Etsy Ireland Team and Handmade Business Team – they are great for advice and feedback on projects – nice to be able to put up new listings and treasuries here too!

*** How do you feel about your life right now?
Happy Happy Happy – is that allowed??? I am a very lucky lady with a lovely hubbie, beautiful and amazing daughter and healthy happy families.

*** Dogs or Cats?
Cats all the way!

I didn't sleep last night, was it excitement about who would be the winner of their choice of stunning Sarah Mai Designs earrings?? I doubt it (though it is a gorgeous prize - but I can't enter the competitions on my own blog); it was instead just another night of blasted insomnia which is now going to trow my whole day off kilter.

But my beautiful Tibetan singing bowl was keeping me calm and I had chocolate in my porridge to cheer me up. Maggie refused to get up and sit with me (selfish pup!) but then realised that I alone held a great power....I got choose (albeit at random) who won today - hurrah!

I wrote down all the names of the people who had entered the draw and cut them into strips, placed them in said Tibetan singing bowl and wished you all the best of luck; I closed my eyes and picked out a piece of paper....... So, I am purposely rambling here I know, I have been up for 4 hours alone, give me a break!

Our winner is......someone who had to be reminded that 'liking' the Facebook page wasn't enough, someone who until last night would not have had their name in the bowl, someone who then put their name down in the hopes of winning a few times....YES IT'S YOU!

This is my right hand after a good session at the Allotment. I do wear gloves but you can see that one pair alone cannot stop the soggy soil from seeping in and getting all ingrained in my hand.

Sweet Etsy Goodness and a Giveaway ~ Sarah Mai Designs

Sarah Mackey is a primary school teacher in Limerick and has only begun her Etsy adventure in the past few months. "I have always been good at crafting and doing things with my hands and been threatening to 'do something creative' for years so decided to start." After making herself a few headpieces for weddings over the years (when she couldn't find what she wanted in the shops) and getting admiring comments, Sarah decided to try and sell them to the public........

** Shop names are so important and personal; where did you get yours from?

My shop name comes from my first two Christian names combined (SarahMai) and was my Mam's suggestion. I think she wanted initially to call me Sarah Mai instead of Sarah when I was born so I thought it was a good suggestion and thankfully, the name hadn't been taken on Etsy so now it's my name for anything to do with the fledgling business.

** Where do you find that you get your inspiration from?

I'm a big fan of gardening and lots of my headpieces have elements of nature in them from butterflies to flowers, also drawing on the rich greens and blues of the countryside and the ever changing greys of the Shannon. I love the crowded canvasses of Klimt and sometimes I think paintings like 'Garden with Sunflowers' echo in some of my butterfly fascinators. In the 'Simply' range the dramatic starkness of someone like Mondrian or the pop art colours and vibe of Lichtenstein are at play in the background. I do watch for the Pantone colour trends and then fashion magazines like Vogue have always been a big part of my life.

** How do you keep up your motivation?

I'm new to selling my items and it is fantastic when someone likes or admires your work so this does help motivate you to create something new. I find creating something really relaxing and calming and it gives me a great sense of pride and self fulfillment. I really 'itch' to make something new so I think the motivation is very intrinsic at the moment. I hope that as I get more successful, I might get some custom orders!

** Do you see you art and shop as a reflection of yourself; your soul?

I think it is a reflection of myself yes. My favourite colours would be black, blues, purples and greens - the cool end of the spectrum and it is to those I naturally feel drawn but for commercial reasons, I have to start to use more of the warm spectrum as they are what most people like and what people are drawn to with spring summer coming - Pantone's colour of summer 2012 is a bright warm orange hue so this is influencing my fascinators and earrings for spring/summer 2012. I love to wear accessories and I think that in a recession, you can wear a simple dress to a few different occasions but if you ring the changes with your accessories, then you don't have to buy two or three expensive outfits!

** Where has this artistic journey taken you so far?
I'm at the very beginning of my journey - I think you need to come back to me in a couple of years and maybe I'll be a bit further along this path but it has proved to me that I am capable of doing something creative and also, that I might be able to set up my own business and earn a second income from my own creativity. I a long way from that yet but I think the future holds some good things for me and SarahMaiDesigns.

** Does Art enhance your life?
Without a doubt - looking around for inspiration helps you to see the beauty all around you, something you might not notice otherwise. On a dirty winter's evening, it is heartening to create something at your kitchen table that is beautiful - it cheeers you up.

** Can we have one pearl of wisdom you have learnt along the way?
Take a chance! If you live life afraid to take a risk you will never try anything new. You might surprise yourself at what you are able to do when you take that chance no matter how small it is!

** How important is feedback to you?
Feedback is really really important to me. While I want to create my own brand and designs, I also want to sell my items and to have this as a sucessful business so any feedback is important as it will hopefully help me to create and design even more desirable items.

** Are you a member of any teams on Etsy - does this help?

I'm a member of crafty ireland which helps me connect with other Ireland etsians. I also joined a review team to give me some pointers and I'm trying to redo a lot of photos but dull winter sunlight in Ireland is not conducive to great photos! One of the members suggested special light bulbs so I am waiting for them to arrive at the moment!

** How do you feel about your life right now?

I'm feeling really positive right now. I am in the middle of creating some new fascinators for spring/summer. They will look really luxurious with silk and feather trimmings but should retail about €40 - €50. I also will be creating some new stunning cocktail earrings and neckpieces to coordinate with the headpieces so you can get a very coordinated 1950's Mad Men look if you want or you can wear something very unique and eye catching from the 'Simply' range.

** Dogs or Cats?
Neither - not a pet person at all but my sister has a lovely rescue dog called Cosi!

St George's Market - update

I wasn't well yesterday and so wasn't able to go back to Market for the first Sunday trading day of the New Year :( It was a crappy feeling and I had to try and keep up to date with Twitter especially as my adopted Big Bro has finally got this permanent stall and it was his first day as non-casual trader and I know that happy feeling.

But anywho - luckily for this wee blog I was a silly sausage and forgot to write up the last trading day before Christmas (18th December), so....I still have an update. Fabulous. By the way, I hope Christmas went well for you and you have had a good start to 2012 maybe even got a bargain in the sales. *Cough, cough*, good sales anywhere? oh well, I am glad you asked. Hahaha - Cherry Blossom Tattoo Photography and Sew Cherry Blossom are both having January sales on! 20% in both shops.......

Back to the update...

Here is my stall, yes it's become a ritual by which I have to live by or I just can't settle and be a seller - a photo of the set up. In the background are Carol, Andrew and Phil having a good old chin wag - I love my stall neighbours :)

Loulou Dreaming was right over by us that week and I was so pleased to get a moment to chat with her. Her stall puts everyone elses' to shame - so much effort I can barely believe it! I adore the tree and all the branches which I am told change with the seasons, the Robin for instance was once a Bluebird - clever girl!The Tayto potato crisp packets don't have crisps in, they are in fact empty and have a zipper across the top - Ah the mystery is solved. Loulou Dreaming's wares and delightful I could have spent the day at her stall, not mine *blush*

Whilst chatting to Phil I noticed this marvellous stall over his shoulder and just had to excuse myself with a squeak of excitement. How could anyone not LOVE a stall called Joseph the Hairy Shark? This was seriously cool. Oonagh has written her own children's story and had it published! I even got to met Joseph - there is only one, an unique event, a hairy shark. I wished so hard that I had someone little to buy a copy for but I don't. Anyway - the book has been going down well and this little girl was really rather excited too :)

I had a terrible panic attack, I mean really bad. It's one of the only times that I have been completely put out of action and just had to sit down from about 2 o'clock onwards :( Carol was lovely and helped loads with her essential oils - how lucky was it that I was positioned beside a lady selling lavender oil which was very helpful in calming me down. After the worst of it died down Andrew got me a delicious surprise from O'Conaill's (who I wrote about a couple of weeks previously) - look at this hot chocolate. It is seriously just chocolate buttons (really delicious dark chocolate for me) and milk frothed over it (you know like a cappuccino maker does). We got a little extra chocolate buttons too cause they are so absolutely wonderful there. This was fantabulous!!!!

Anyway that was my last day - hopefully I'll be back this week :) Yay!!! I'm trying to get myself together - I'll need to do a stock check, order prints and basically try to be organised (not my best quality!). Hugs galore xxxx

{In the Picture} week 1

So my 365 project was a total disaster wasn't it *shame on me*. So instead of making a New Year's resolution to try again (3rd time lucky and all that) I decided to trawl the net for a group of people doing something a little less intense. Thus I happily came across Urban Muser and her project {In the Picture}. You'll see her lovely button on the right hand side, just click and you can go straight to the project page.

This is a much easier (I hope) 52 photos, one every week, instead of everyday! And there is a Flickr group too which is fab (though Flickr and I are having realtionship problems at the minute - boo hiss)

The theme for this month is 'A Piece of Me' so here is my little entry -

It's special to me as I took it after my walk with the dog on Tuesday; it was the 1st time I had been out alone since September last year! I don't have any make up on and my hair is a mess but I can tell you - I felt good and I wanted to take a photo as a little record. It's this shape because I wanted to focus on my face, which was showing my calm and confident self for once. It's Black and White because I didn't want everyone to see how blotchy my skin was from being so cold and I hadn't slept the night before with nerves *blush*

Wish me luck on this project - I really want to complete it - already the doubts are creeping in and this is week 1! xx

A crisis of confidence

I have heard of writer's block and have come up against it many a time whilst writing my blogs but when I get total creative block I feel like I am dying. It's happening now.

I took my newly cleaned camera out with me yesterday on a rare Bank Holiday of completely nothing doing. Andrew and I aimlessly drove to the Down Coast and added up in Strangford, took the boat across to Portaferry and visited the Aquarium. I'd never been there before and it was really quite lovely, I even got to hold a Starfish, a Sea Anemone and a Clam :) Holding a Starfish has been one of my dreams. I know I have had plenty of opportunity to do so as I live on the seashore but I have never allowed myself as I thought it would be to stressful for it.

But so few photos were taken. I have lost the drive.

I haven't sewn anything in weeks.

Though I have started an art journal, joined a few journalling groups and am waiting on a book to arrive as I feel way out of my depth. Oh dear, I am just not in the right frame of mind - what's wrong with me??

I am going to work more on my study and make it more cosy. I never use it and it's a damned shame. I am going to get curtains, cover my huge white table and put down a rug. I have been thinking more about the light and trying to keep it bright and fresh in case I do still lives, but what is the point in that if I can't just enjoy the space and feel welcome there....

I'm rambling so here are a few of the few photos I did take yesterday. I truly must give myself a big shake and get out of this funk.

Simon visits with Mouflon :)

The lovely and super talented Mouflon (Sarah) hosted little Simon over the Christmas period. I am glad to say he didn't do too much damage and I have looked forward to sharing his photos with you. His time as a Goodwill Ambassdor for Etsy Ireland seems to be going well, bar the fact that there appears to be a trail of broken hearts left in his wake. Awww.

And hey the cats take turns to sleep in the laundry basket in the bathroom, but they weren’t keen on me sharing with them, and they are so big I didn’t argue. I found a really nice snug place on the bookshelf where I could see everything but keep out of their way ; there are four of them. And I have seen what they do to mice – Yuk! – Nasty!

I asked Sarah to send you some photos of her ‘Mobile Workshop’, thought perhaps it might be useful for other crafters. It consists of a plastic meat tray lined with garden fleece or cloth, some containers ( IKEA and Beadalon) and a bead mat.

Here is Sarah's in use! It looked very complicated, especially for me as I have such short arms and no thumbs. I left it to the master and it was fabulous to watch these beautiful earrings coming together.

A few of my favourite things.....

It was a bloody horrible day today - like the end of the world was coming, not just the end of the year. So the Gaults' did what we do in a case like this........

I was up at 3am and 5am and 7am and then had breakfast, went upstairs to wake the Hubby at 10am and fell asleep as soon as my head hit his pillow, hahahahahaha. I offically got up at 11 *blush* We quickly got ourselves pulled together, dropped Maggie off at her Granny's and out into the day. When the weather gives you lemons, well here are a few of our favourite things to do :)

Stinky day - driving out of Carrick and not particularly 'loving it', haha - that was a pun.

One must always drive with carpet in the back - it's the new black

Our favourite second hand book shop in Belfast. To my left was all the DIY, Cooking and Crafty books. But nothing for me today.

It was so cold! And we had paid for the hour in the car park so off to the pet shop (note the Fish net in the plastic bag) and then the Coffee shop - yum

THE MUSEUM! Yay I realise that this is not a great photo of our Museum but these tiles outside the door always please me

We had loads of fun in the kids section of the gift shop. I almost bought everything but Andrew stopped me - boo hiss!

This is so COOL! I love the Texaco Kid's Art Expo and have gone year after year. This was my favourite piece and it was on the poster! A 13yr old did this portrait in crayon - so amazing I want to own it! Upstairs we also saw the Urban Street Art expo and the National Portrait Gallery's travelling show of the Queen - so fab!

Into Conor (a cafe situated in the studio of the painter William Conor (1944-1954) opposite the Museum for much needed refreshment

We staid there chatting for ages, until it got dark and chilly outside (and still raining).

A Cherry Blossom Tattoo Christmas

I'm not a fan, I don't think I have been for most of my life, but every year it just gets worse and that is with my actually really trying to like it. I guess Christmas is my holiday equivalent to Olives = Yuck!

Anywho I did take some photos this year just to prove to everyone that I am not a complete Scrooge and I do try to have a good time (though to be honest I think it's just the fact that I drink more, eat more chocolate and don't sleep so I'm more hyper than anything *blush*). But this year I wasn't putting it on, I didn't force the jolliness and just told people outright that this season is hard for me. Funny, so many other people were relieved - they feel the same.

But anyway, I haven't sleep for yet another night and I am totally rambling on in a very clumsy manner. I shall instead let my photos do the talking....

Christmas Eve Eve

Maggie successfully killed her main enemy in life - a blue squeaky dog - and was thus settled for the day :)

Can't beat it for laughs and tears and a great distraction from doing all the blasted ironing that had gathered up. (I'm so geeky - the DVD must be pointing the right way before it goes in the machine)

Yes, I decorated a little, this, and the wreath on the door was a good rouse I thought to anyone who may have come to the door - the rest of the house is completely un-Christmasy, not even a pine needle never mind a tree.

I started wrapping up the pressies :) It wasn't long after this photo that the hubby came home from after work holiday drinks - time to cuddle up and watch tv :)

Christmas Eve

Raisin and Chocolate porridge for breakfast :) Got to get chocolate in right a the bringing of the celebrations!

My wonderful cousin Ali made me a necklace for Christmas. We had to open each others as she was going 'home' (America has stolen her from us) later that afternoon. It was lovely spending some time with her and Emma and Auntie K and Uncle H and little Natasha.

We also visited friends - to all parents out there - you are amazing; kids are crazy!

Andrew prepared Christmas dinner - here he is with our wee bird, stuffed and ready to go into the oven :)

Whilst the turkey was cooking we visited Mamma G and swapped gifts. Like little kids we couldn't help but open each others, smiles all round!

Home to the most glorious Christmas dinner EVER! Though there was no way I could eat all that. We had/have lots of leftovers - yummy.

Sweet Etsy Goodness and a Giveaway ~ Lone Crow Photo

Suzi Smith of 'Lone Crow Photo' is a bit of a nomad who travels around the UK in a caravan to affliciate her Husband's job. It sounds terribly romantic and something that would diffentalely lead one into the artistic side of life. She is orginially from North Yorkshire but has called North East England her home for most of the last year and it seems she may stay there a while longer..... Her work is beautiful, her words, deep and I am excited to share her with you; plus she has so kindly offered to host my last giveaway of 2011 :)

* Shop names are so important and personal; where did you get yours from?
The name 'Lone Crow' came years ago... wandering through the woods, a winter crescent moon low in the sky, deep in thought. A crow started cawing in the branches above me and seemed to shout "lone crow"... for the next couple of weeks a single crow always seemed to show up when I was out, calling the same name. When I started planning this shop, a crow turned up again, and so 'Lone Crow Photo' was born.

* Where do you find that you get your inspiration from?
Just look out of the window.... or shut my eyes & breathe.... it's all around. Walking in the woods or down the street..... looking up at the sky or down at the pavement... I'm just fascinated with colour & textures... at seeing bare branches form buds & watching them unfurl... and the moon, how she fascinates & inspires.... just looking at & being a part of nature is inspiration for me.

Also a quotation, "Inspiration comes from doing", don't know who said it but it's true. You can sit thinking about what you could do, or might do etc etc... or you can sit thinking you don't know what to do... but actually doing something leads to other things. Even if it's bitter cold and I really don't want to go outside to get that shot, once I take the first photograph, it can lead to being out for hours. When I really don't want to sit at the 'puter checking & editing, once I start..... you know the story.... how many hours go by & more ideas for what I want to photograph or how to catch something.

It's the same for writing.... even if I have no direction to begin with.... just the act of picking up a pen or pencil & doing some doodles or writing random words (a psychologists dream if they ever saw what I wrote!).... and before long I'm in full flow & really, REALLY don't want to stop.

* How do you keep up your motivation?
Well, I always have so many ideas, it is easy for me to get distracted or not do anything for thinking of things. I try to leave something unfinished so there is something I have to get on with straight away... or have a 'to do' list so I don't get too side-tracked. (except that it's a very flexible list & I tend to ignore it, but the theory is good!)

Once I start on something though, I can be very single minded. I think it's important to recognise your own natural cycles too... there are times when I'm naturally more productive & others when I'm more thoughtful.... and since keeping an eye on the moon-phase I've been much more aware of my own cycles of motivation & introspection etc. I don't get upset with myself if I'm not motivated though... it usually just means I need to be looking at something else for a while, and it's quite ok to do 'nothing' for a while too!

* Do you see you art and shop as a reflection of yourself; your soul?
Absolutely.... at least a tiny part of it.

* Where has this artistic journey taken you so far?
It's led me along a wonderful path.... It has lead me to teach calligraphy, to open a shop selling my own work & that of others, to learn about healing... both myself & others.

I took a calligraphy class more than 20 years ago... I collected quotations to write out, and so read snippets of wisdom from great philosophers & ancient cultures, bits of poems & bits of religion... these lead me to read more, to think more deeply.... to recognise the connection between all things.

The photography only started seriously a couple of years ago. I was taking photographs for my blog and tried to catch a lunar eclipse... and got that bright fuzzy blob of light that you will know so well if you've tried to photograph the moon! I started reading about photography... then cameras... then when my little old camera 'died' I bought a 2nd hand Nikon d40. I've learnt a great deal about myself whilst I've been watching the moon & seen so much more in nature.

Taking photographs, then writing about what I've seen... what I feel... has clarified my thoughts and insights, and has often translated into calligraphic work too. My art & spirituality walk hand in hand with me & I'm thoroughly enjoying the journey!

* Does Art enhance your life?
Art is a way of being... if I didn't write or paint or photograph I'd be happy just appreciating the greatest artist of them all... Mother Nature.

* Can we have one pearl of wisdom you have learnt along the way?
Accept what you've done as the best you could do at that time. Ok, so you might think it would have been better like this or that, but accept that piece, as it is, at that time. If you try again, treat it as a new piece of work, not just 're-doing' the same thing over & over, which can lead to frustration. In this way, the new project has it's own new life & energy...

* How important is feedback to you?
I'm often amazed at how much something I've done can mean to someone else... it's always lovely to hear. A bit of an ego thing, but still lovely!

* Are you a member of any teams on Etsy - does this help?
Too many! I keep seeing something that seems interesting or useful to be a part of, but to be honest I find them too much of a distraction. It's too easy to spend time looking at what other people are doing instead of getting on with my own business. I've neglected my own writing since being involved with teams on etsy.... it's something I've got to learn to balance, but that will come, Im sure!

* How do you feel about your life right now?

I feel like I'm drifting a bit at the moment... but enjoying it!

* Dogs or Cats?

I like both. We've got a dog, a Cocker Spaniel called Ted. Teddy Smith sounds very designer-ish don't you think?! He's a real scruff, a bit like me, lol. Because he needs walking I spend much more time out in the woods or with my camera than I probably would otherwise.... and love that. I've never had cat, but whenever I go to anyone's house who has one they always sit on my knee... and I love big wild cats!

A trip to London! - Simon's time with Little White Dog (pt2)

Welcome to the second part of Simon's amazing adventure with 'Little White Dog'....this is pretty darned cool!!!

Simon also enjoyed reading the comics I use for Superman, Batman and Beano letters. One afternoon he and Milo both took a particular interest in Tintin when I was making a Tintin letter D. Simon told us that in France Tintin's little white dog, Snowy, is actually called Milou. Our Milo thought this was so exciting that he had to run in circles around the studio for a few minutes! While all this was going on the radio was on in the background and by some strange coincidence there was a competition to win tickets for the premiere of The Adventures of Tintin in London. Simon said "Ring them! Quickly!" so I picked up my phone, dialed the number and got through to the programme. Between the three of us we answered the questions and won the tickets (although I didn't tell the dj that I was being helped by a little white dog and a travelling gecko!).

Milo was very pleased and wagged his tail a lot, but he said that while travelling by car or by train was all very well, flying in an airplane was not really his idea of fun. He said he'd be much happier staying with friends and being spoilt rotten on solid ground. So, my husband and I set off for London, with Simon travelling very comfortably in my handbag.

Simon got a bit shy at the film premiere with all the flashing cameras on the blue carpet but he forgot all that when he spotted Daniel Craig, Jamie Bell and Simon Pegg (another Simon, yaay!). He really enjoyed the film once he got the hang of the 3D glasses - they don't make them in gecko sizes you know!

Even though it was only a short trip we managed to visit quite a few London sights including the Transport Museum (maps, yaay!) and we spent ages browsing the markets in Covent Garden where we found a particularly lovely stall selling old printers trays and letterpress blocks (letters, yaay!).

After a gorgeous sunny day in London we were pretty exhausted on the flight home. On landing in Dublin we were surprised and slightly alarmed to hear that the city had experienced a deluge of 'monster rain' and floods. You can imagine what Simon's imagination thought of that but all he said, very diplomatically, was "Can Milo swim at all?". Despite the floods we found a very happy, dry, fluffy Milo waiting for us. Simon was very relieved!

When the day came for our little gecko friend to hop back into his envelope and continue on his travels to visit Makissima we were a little bit sad to see him go and a little bit envious of all the lovely things he would get to see. Most of all Milo and I were very glad that we had had the privilege of such a lively and entertaining little visitor. If Simon is coming to visit you be prepared for exciting things to happen because they probably will!

Getting Christmas-y at St George's Market

Okay so I know I told last Sunday (the 4th )was the official St George's Christmas market but I wasn't in the mood so much as now and it turns out that the market felt the same. This Sunday past, as we get closer to the event itself, we had Carol singers, a Circus group and more tinsle and lights than you could shake a stick at.

Even I got in on the action. Me, the Grinch-ess of Christmas - look at my stall.... tinsel and Christmas confetti and even Christmas wrapping paper for the larger purchases one of which was a gift for a Minister; now you can't get much more Christmas-y than that! Plus click the pic to check out how jolly Andrew is :)

I really have to introduce you to some other traders I really like - everyone is so friendly it just makes me want to sing their praises to the world. First up is the lovely Sharon Regan, who I swear, I could watch all day as she creates these amazing sculptures often right there beside her stall. I have a definite love for Donkeys and Horses too so I think she is fabulous! AND she can paint - is there no end to her talents? :)

This was a new face to me but the Ó Conaill Chocolate girl drew me over and I was in heaven for while. Pity I have my own stall to run or I could have staid by this one all day sniffing in as much hot chocolatey goodness smells as is humanly possible. ummmmmm........... They came up all the way from Cork and look at the sign; 'The best in the country and possibly the continent'.

Plus there were tasters of all the different Coca strengths but I was a good girl and didn't have any, or maybe I was a total eejit and missed out the one of the best experiences of the market - god what a stupid thing to do! I certainly hope they come back this weekend I am going to eat all round me!

Lastly I want to show you the work of Ruth Walker which I have admired since I first started out at the market as a casual trader. I even sent Andrew off during the afternoon to buy a piece as a special present for someone but I can't say who in case they are reading this, hahaha. Ruth is lovely and I though I'm not that big into necklaces, would happily have one or two of everything else from her stall :)

But to be honest the best bit about the day, even with the Carol Singers *(pic below) and the Community Circus (which was all happening behind me and I didn't get to see anything), was seeing my cousin Ali who now lives in America since she got married a year ago to a Yank. It was lovely, as if she hadn't been away at all and that was a great Christmas Present for me :)

I wonder what this Sunday Market will bring; the last before Christmas. I hope it's manic, crazy and everyone sells out of all their stock because people have caught the 'buy handmade ~ support your local artists' bug - wouldn't that be fabulous??!

Simon has fun with 'Little White Dog'

On a dull and cold day like today there is nothing better than catch up with our dear Simon the Gecko (Etsy Ireland's Goodwill Ambassador) and his adventures. Thank you dear, sweet Suzie from 'Little White Dog' for this, the story and photos of the 1st part of his stay with you and Milo..........

Once upon a Monday morning a big padded envelope flopped in through the letterbox, landed on the mat and wriggled. It was sniffed by a little white dog but rescued by a Suzie before things got 'interesting' in a nibbly way.

When we investigated further and opened the envelope, who popped out but Simon the Travelling Gecko.... just in time for breakfast. After some lovely fruit and yoghurt we all walked down the road to the Little White Dog studio. When we arrived Milo headed for one of his usual snoozing spots on a cushion on the desk, while Simon ran around and investigated everything.

He scampered over piles of maps and books, lifted the lids off boxes to peep inside and spent ages analysing the 3D letters of all colours and sizes that are displayed around the studio. He particularly enjoyed the map letters because he could look for all the places he's visited on his travels. It wasn't long before he found a letter showing the one place that, no matter how far or how long he travels, will always have a special place in his little gecko heart. So he sat very still for a while and thought about Carrickfergus and home and Carrie, and all the lovely stories they will be able to tell each other when they see each other again. When Milo heard a little gecko-ish sniffle he suggested some word games to help with the homesickness and lift Simon's spirits. I was working on the word SLÁINTE (health) so they decided to make some Irish words like TÁ (yes), NÍL (no) and, after a rummage in a box for an F, FÁILTE (welcome). They discovered that if a letter has a fada (accent) over it and you nudge it with your nose, the fada wiggles!

We found out that Simon is like a little gecko shaped magnet for facts and figures, and my goodness does he love to read! He was really helpful for researching things, like deciding what paper to use for an '&' in a set of letters for a wedding present: he suggested paper with pictures of ivy on it because it symbolises wedded love, fidelity, friendship and affection - perfect.

The 2nd part is even more exciting and shall follow soon :) ....

The Christmas Fair at St George's Market

Saturday and Sunday past was the official St George's Christmas fair weekend :) Oh look - pretty lights outside and everything.

I only do Sunday's so I missed the mayhem of Saturday but Sunday was by far busy enough for me. Plus there was some movement of the stalls to allow more in and the tables and chairs were right in front of my stall = eeek! It was like people sitting in a gallery eating their delicious food and having warming coffee talking about my work. Oh my, I felt like I was on show. Just as well I had some gorgeous new material for my table and it's long enough to go down to the ground so you can't see how I tap my foot and jiggle about the whole time with nerves ;)

Another new addition to the Cherry Blossom Tattoo stall were my new felt and fabric brooches :) I was reminded last week when I signed my contract that I am licensed to do these as well as photography but I just haven't bothered before! Wish me luck with them, I worked so hard on them (remember the double vision!).

Gayle was missing and that made me really rather sad but Andrew staid all day and we kept the plate spinning up! Well he did, I've lost the knack *shakes head in saddness*. Phil was of course beside us, we love him and he keeps us all entertained with his juggling etc and, well he's just plain great. Here he is before the fabulous tinsle and lights went up. And after...

Of course I also took a photo of a new stall opposite my girl Lisa's stall. Loulou Dreaming - look at the effort that has gone into that stall front - super impressed! I think I could easily have taking everything they had home with me but there was never any time to go back and have a good look.

Mark from Travel Posters Online had the joy of a proper exhibition stand for the day. The council had splashed out and made the whole back wall look so professional and gave everyone down there more hanging space. It was great looking but sadly only for the weekend. Mark's shop is amazing I love all his old tourist posters - when I am really rich and famous and my hall is huge I'll buy loads of them! (He's also really friendly, so any excuse to walk the length of the place go any say "Hello", haha).

Lastly I just have to share this photo of the bun Andrew and I shared. A caramel krispie square - yes the people at Jam and Ollys have finally made the ultimate bun! I adore Rice Krispie squares; Andrew's favourite is a caramel square - so really what you are looking at is a bun that further cements our wonderful harmonious marriage xxx Oh and my English teacher from school came and said Hello (hugs Stephen!) and our Wedding photographer Peter Nash was liking my work = huge blushes and pride :)

Sweet Etsy Goodness and a Giveaway ~ Paula McGurdy

There is much depth and emotion in the work of Irish artist Paula McGurdy, to read her profile on Etsy is too really get a feel of the thought that goes into every unique piece she creates. Here I am lucky enough to share with you more about this fasincating and introspective lady and her work.......

Where do you find that you get your inspiration from?
A lot of my work has to do with memories and the passing of time, fleeting moments in our lives. I try to capture the deicate fragile nature of life in my work.

How do you keep up your motivation? And what is your 'art fuel'?
I have a two men in my life, one big (my Husband) and one little (my 2 year old munchkin!) & it is only now at this stage after having a baby that I feel like I have the energy and motivation to get back into my art. I wanted to kick start my creative juices so decided to take part in the Christmas Holiday Bootcamp. It is really motivating and I've got a lovely buddy, Debbie, we email regularly and set out our goals for that week just to keep each other accountable and to motivate each other. It's been really enjoyable and encouraging to journey with someone else who is trying to get their Etsy shop up and running.

Do you see you art and shop as a reflection of yourself; your soul?
Absolutely! I think as an artist you put so much of yourself, time, energy and ideas into a piece of work that it is almost impossible to separate where you and it begins and ends. Making and creating is fundamental who we are as humans, I believe we were created by a creator and therefore we ourselves are creative. Whether that be baking, flower arranging, carpentry or drawing it's in us somewhere if we look for it.

Where has this artistic journey taken you so far?
I moved to London to study Drawing in Camberwell College of Art. So far I've got a degree and moved country because of my art. Thankfully I have a very supportive husband : P
I never thought I would ever be able to study Art on so many different levels. The route it has taken me and the way my art has developed and changed has been really exciting. Who knows where it will take me in the future?!?

Does Art enhance your life?
I find that my work is often therapeutic, it makes my life richer, without it my life would be incomplete (It completes me....gotta love a bit of Gerry Maguire!!)

Can we have one pearl of wisdom you have learnt along the way?
Recently I heard someone say that, 'making your dreams come true takes hard work' that has really impacted me and when I'm weary and hitting the studio seems like a chore this is my mantra. Once I sit down and doodle for a bit inspiration normally hits and I get into a rhythm.

How important is feedback to you?
Constructive criticism is always welcome, sometimes it helps to see things with someone elses eyes.

Deffinaltey dogs! I had lots of pets growing up....rabbits, guinea pigs and dogs. I really want to get a little dachshund....so cute!!

Sunday at St George's Market

Darn and blast it, I had thought yesterday would be scrum of people looking for the perfect Christmas presents for their loved ones and of course I have them!! hahaha. Unfortunately it didn't occur to me that everyone in the real world, with real jobs hasn't been paid yet *rolls eyes*. So the market was quite quiet.

Ever one to make the best of things though I used this to my advantage and had Andrew go home for 3 hours; yes 3 hours working my stall on my own! He was able to get work done on the Allotment for a change, plus the weather was co-operating for once :) I was able to prove to myself that I can cope alone. I say cope, if it wasn't for my newly adopted big brother Jeff (Belfast Times) I think I may have exploded. He kept me sane when I had a huge panic attack and I love him for it.

We had a few new faces yesterday which is always nice to see. I really hope they like the Market and make it their business home on Sundays ~ the more top quality people we have selling different things the better. I am determined that one day this Craft and Art day every week will be recognised as the place to be :) I know that may sound a little over optimistic but there really is talent under that roof and and heck of a lot of very friendly people!!!

I missed my lovely Gayle and couldn't bring myself to spin a plate without her, haha. But the saddest part of the day was when Andrew returned with the news that Daphne (my new goldfish) had passed away. Oh woe is me! Why, Daphne, Why!???

I spoke to some lovely customers and some very enthusiastic amateur photographers, so although the stall wasn't sol out I did have a nice time and the day went in just fine. One highlight was meeting a new seller from Poland and tasting her amazing little cakes - oh, to die for! Plus she had many different crafts on her stall and after I took this photo of the cutest little magnet in the world (possibly; I haven't seen them all....) Andrew went and bought it for me - ah the love of a hubby :) She had plenty of other gorgeous things for sale and was adorable herself but you can obviously see my mind was on biscuits and cake.... *blush*

Now it would be unforgivable to not mention 2 non-new, very much a part of St George's girls... My Lisa who I love and missed terribly during the past couple of weeks....

And Debra from Hampton Blue and Wendy if you are reading this....this is the stall where I got your birthday pressie weeks ago and it's still sitting here in the living room *oh the shame*

Andrew and I spent last weekend in Cookstown, Co. Tyrone, taking part in their fabulous Winter Craft Fair. This was the 2nd time we had taken part and boy it will not be the last; I love the atmosphere there and the whole fair is run impeccably, plus there are lots of other lovely traders to chat to. And everyone from that part of the world seems so friendly!

Beside me was Jennifer from 'Cornucopia 4 U' who is also at the St George's Market on Sundays and just across the room was the gorgeous work of 'Made Pretty', Gillian wasn't there herself but her Mum (who I love) was there working hard :) There were a couple of other familiar faces and the girl straight in front of me comes from Carrick too (such a small world!)

I sold a good lot of pieces and was really quite proud of myself, the comments I received were lovely and many people simply loved to chat photography. I met a few people who I shall never forget, whose stories will stay with me and push me onwards to do more. Funny how one of my pieces can be reinterpreted by someone else as a sign, that little signal they were looking for to move on in life.

A favourite this year was definitely 'Any Apples?' and I sold a few in various sizes. I love to see the smiles on peoples' faces when they see this crazy guy and the kids that giggle and point.

I also sold my first framed poster prints which was really exciting and has boosted my confidence that yes, sometimes bigger is better! ;) These 4 were snapped up and it is just as well that the exhibition in the Apartment in Belfast finished on Sunday as The Half Light was sold, hehehe.

Something that really made me happy were the few bespoke orders I was asked for. Oh I get little tingles just thinking about them. How blessed, how humbling to have someone love a piece so much that they will ask for it in a different size to fit the space they have. So often people will just walk away if the exact thing isn't placed in front of their noses, not the good people of the Winter Fair! I even had to get one piece printed and mounted the wrong way up!!!! hahaha - of course there is never a wrong way with art but I always have Hope in his Hand as landscape, this particular couple thought it ought to be portrait and you know the old saying...the customer is always right :)

A great weekend, though exhausting - many thanks to Burnavon Arts Center, Cookstown! See you next year xxxxxx

I have had the recent joy of getting to know this incredible artist a little better recently and am so happy to share her with you ;) Chiara of Makissima is a friendly, beautiful and extremely talented lady, I have a piece of her work myself so you know I am a huge fan! Let's get on eh? Plus, there is a giveaway, what??! Oh yes, I forgot to mention she is also very generous xx

*** What is your name and where do you come from?
Chiara (read ki-a-ra) is a very common name in Italy, where I come from, but I regard it as unique and special because my grandmother chose it for me, discarding the other one my mother liked saying it was too old fashioned! Ahahah she was great!

*** Shop names are so important and personal; where did you get yours from?
Ah, good question! Actually I joined Etsy as a buyer much before I could even think of having a shop, so my name was a bit of a random choice! It’s a funny version of the pet name sometime my friends use for me, it comes from a Japanese comic-book (which I am really fond of!).

But in the end it worked out quite nicely and I like the idea that I can actually befriend the people interested in my work and that we can share something together just as friends do!

*** Where do you find that you get your inspiration from?

Most of the time from my reading: I like to bring characters to life, being them from classic myths, fairy tales or contemporary novels. But sometimes can be just something I see happening around me, a person I met in the street or a funny-shaped tree. I never know what could attract my attention next time.

*** How do you keep up your motivation? And what is your 'art fuel'?
Mmmhh…I’m not sure if I grasp the question completely, but I don’t feel like I need something to keep up my motivation. Drawing comes natural to me, unconsciously I’m always seeing things as a pictures, thinking how I would render that light or atmosphere, even though, in the end, I don’t put them down in a finished picture.
That’s why I always bring a small journal and a pen or a pencil with me, nothing fancy, but those are probably the items I would never go without!

*** Do you see you art and shop as a reflection of yourself; your soul?
My shop probably reflects one of the sides of my personality I chose to show, I try to experiment different mediums and subjects, but not all of them are suited for selling.
On the other side my art does reflect what I am, even if on certain occasions I would rather it didn’t! ;)

*** Where has this artistic journey taken you so far?
If I look back I’m surprised how far it got me! Literally it brought me 2000 km from home (since now I live in Ireland) which is quite a distance, but if you look at my drawings from few years ago you can see that my artistic journey has been even longer (sometimes I have goose bumps watching my previous works! Argh!). I like to think it will keep going, not knowing where it’ll bring me next times!

*** Does Art enhance your life?
To be sure. Well, as a lot of artistic people already said here and elsewhere: “I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t creating something.” For me it’s the same, I consider myself really lucky because I think that Art, in every single and personal form, allows a different view in life. It’s not something to be underestimate because affects each aspect you can think of, from dealing with people to the way you notice the leaves on the trees (sorry, it’s autumn and I can’t help it!).

*** Can we have one pearl of wisdom you have learnt along the way?
Ahahahah! I don’t think I will be ever old enough to dispense pearls of wisdom, but something I’m learning this very moment is to keep trying, whatever your aim is, and being happy while doing it. If you don’t succeed at least you can say you had fun along the way!

*** How important is feedback to you?
Any kind of feedback is very important to me, being a perfectionist means that sometimes I’m not 100% satisfied with the ultimate result, so I like to hear what other people think.
Also, they are my creatures but I recently discovered how interesting is to listen to how people see them too, what they like more or the feelings they receive from the picture.

*** Are you a member of any teams on Etsy - does this help?
I’m a proud member of Etsy Ireland Team and I can say is a very big help: sharing your thought and experience is great, along with meeting and chances to sell altogether!I got a lot from this team since I opened my shop. I can’t thank them all enough!
I must say I’m also member of the Etsy International, European Street Team and the MadeinItaly Team but I didn’t deep my knowledge of them yet.

*** How do you feel about your life right now?
Transformation is the main aspect of my life now, a massive amount of things is changing, I don’t know yet if for good or not, but I’ll keep doing my best until everything is revealed. :D

*** Dogs or Cats?

*Chink chink* - the knife hits the side of the wine glass and I clear my throat.....

May I introduce Sew Cherry Blossom the place where I am showing my arty side through sewing :) I must remind you that I have double vision, (I see 2 of everything all the time), so this stuff, this is hard work! But I love it. It's something I have done since I was first found to have a visual problem and thought to myself - "well stuff it I am not going to let this beat me".

I am making pincushion corsages to my own design after a dear friend asked me if I could make her a wee pincushion from felt; she knew I like making little things. I had never done anything like it before but said "yes" like an eejit because I thought, well she believes in me. I never thought I would sell a further 3 already :)

I also make little embroideries and cross stitches to my own designs and love messing about with colour and seeing little projects come together. Though it does take me about 3 times as long as it should I am looking at the positives and can hardly believe it each time I see a finished article.

So, no pressure, I just wanted to share the news. I am still very much a photographer but when you have the flu for a month and can't go outstide it is a joy to have a second hobby on the back burner. I do hope you like my efforts :) I have so many ideas and finished this piece for Catrina last on Monday - I promise you will get it some day, hahahahaha. She picked the phrase herself - cute, isn't it?

A wee montage of my area at St George's Market

I wasn't well enough to go to my usual permanent stall in St George's yesterday which was really sad, though eased a little by a long lie in and the knowledge that my girl Gayle wasn't going to be there either. However, I would have preferred to be well and happily chatting away to visitors about photography, drinking coffee and generally people watching. Instead I was bundled up on the sofa with my blankie feeling terribly sorry for myself.

So here are a few photos I have taken over the past few weeks that I have had my stall. My 365 project isn't going to well and I guess these would have been in it now I come to think of it....

First off I must introduce you to Gayle and our new pass time - we are all avid plate spinners now thanks to Phil who has the jugglers' stall beside me.. Here is the height of our talents so far - spinning then jumping the plate and continuing the spin. We're working on 2 people spinning and swapping their plates...give us time :)

Gayle has progressed onto juggling with scarves - I am crap at it :) The ultimate will of course be the traditional juggling balls..

I also saw these 2 fabulous items of fashion and had to share -

Halloween wasn't really celebrated by Cherry Blossom Tattoo though we did have a black balloon on our table left over from the Saturday market so it didn't look too bad. I my own tiny way I marked the occasion by wearing an anti-scary badge and smiling lots. I also had no voice, none what so ever, so it was a quiet day for me - Andrew, my glamorous assistant had to translate my squeaks to customers :o (he also kindly added a note to my black board...)

Then the week before last was Belfast's day party day - we were hosting the EMTV awards and the place was quite busy. Sadly I didn't sell anything to anyone super famous, nor did I even see someone remotely famous, haha. Saw these two girls though, desperate to get into the Odyssey for the big night. I somehow doubt they got those tickets..

I was showing off my own fabulousness with my new spinney card display that Andrew had built for me with his own manly hands :) Plus we had a very loud couple of lads singing away all afternoon, I hope that Spanish MTV crew caught them - they could end up being famous!

Sweet Etsy Goodness - Umber Dove

As I said yesterday I am in love with the work and the words of Californian Kelly Clark. I adore her blog and long to own something that she has created one day! I just need to start saving :) I have wanted to share Kelly with you for a while now but firstly I felt to embarassed to ask a hero and secondly I sort of wanted to keep her for myself *blush*. I can't do that so here is the fabulously talented and lovely Umber Dove......

**Shop names are so important and personal; where did you get yours from?
Many years ago, as I was preparing for a gallery show, I happened to notice that my dress matched my paintings. This was no random occurrence, as I favor loads of color, but that day I realized the two base colors included in nearly every piece of my art, were also included in nearly every outfit. The colors? Raw Umber and Dove Grey. Thus, UmberDove was born.

**Where do you find that you get your inspiration from?
This is an ever growing list, but always stemming from my experiences with nature. I am treeish in my very soul; it’s quite impossible to keep me out of the woods and water! As a child I believed that animals, both wild and domesticated, inherently understood me and I them (and I don’t think I’ve outgrown this feeling yet). I’m constantly strolling the woods, fields and beaches, looking, trying to commit color and shape and raw feeling to memory so that later, at the right time in the studio, I can recall the essence of experience.

**How do you keep up your motivation? And what is your 'art fuel'?
I have to look, to see, to hear, to feel. This often means shutting down the computer, heading outside and hitting the trails or the beach, without a huge agenda. I don’t always see “the thing” that presses me into the next wave of inspiration, but the outside air clears my head and sloughs off the grit of the rut.

** Do you see you art and shop as a reflection of yourself; your soul?

Ouph, YES! One hundred percent. I believe that art is rather narcissistic in nature: I know no other human experience better than I know my own. I can only see through my own eyes, only understand touch with my own fingers, only know sound with my own ears. I, and only I, can only fully know my own story (and the same with you and your story) so in order to create the truest art, the most honest art, I MUST create that which is a reflection of my soul, which comes from within.

** Where has this artistic journey taken you so far?

Farther than I ever imagined! The most amazing part of the journey has been, hands down, the people I have met: artists, curators, patrons, and fellow journey[wo]men. There is such an incredible tribe I’ve come in contact with; without them I imagine my work would be less vibrant, less confident, less, well, me.

** Does Art enhance your life?

The two are so intertwined I can hardly imagine life sans art. Art is and can be everywhere, from the way light slants across the tree tops 20 minutes before sunset, to the color I choose to paint my toes. I believe in filling my life with art, from the tea cups I drink from to the exotic houseplants I can never stop myself from buying. As soon as you look for it, art appears everywhere. And my life is certainly better for it!

** Can we have one pearl of wisdom you have learnt along the way?

Just keep showing up. Not every day in the studio (whatever, wherever your studio may be) will be full of brilliance and blinding inspiration but the making of art is cumulative. Just keep showing up, doing the work, honing your skills, educating your hands and eyes, and the art will come.

** How important is feedback to you?

It is absolutely important! The very best feedback, the type that fuels my spirit is hearing how a piece of my art has carried a special message or meaning to someone. It makes me feel like such a messenger and causes me to remember just how incredible and potent art truly is!!

** Are you a member of any teams on Etsy - does this help?

Mmm, I’m afraid not. But I have been blessed to know and surround myself with a large group of artists online who offer amazing support – both as patrons and P.R. reps. In this, Etsy has been incredible as so many of my patrons have become interwebular friends and visa versa.

** How do you feel about your life right now?
At this very second? Fabulous. Of course that is NOT always the case, as I regularly vacillate between burst of glee and fits of melancholy (ah, my poor husband! Any given day is a puzzle!). Recently I had a friend describe what they saw of me as “living a charmed life.” Initially I guffawed, but the more I thought about it, the more I really had to admit that ANY one who is blessed enough to feel passion, to follow dreams, to find not only the courage but also the time to pursue the life they believe in DOES live a charmed life.

** Dogs or Cats?
Bring them all on! Plus the horses, don’t forget the horses! Honestly I’m a huge animal lover in general, growing up on a funny farm filled with cats, dogs, rats, birds, snakes, snapping turtles, a flying squirrel and one alligator named Izod (true story, but for another time).

Missing In Action

Hello :)
I have been super duper ill over the past few weeks, first mentally then a severe throat and ear infection and now, most happily, a cold and sore throat that must have come straight from the Devil himself. I can not shake it and am rattling with the amount of medication that I'm taking. If I am not sleeping then I'm moaning or coughing or blowing my nose.

Last night I even went to the out of hours Doctor I was in so much pain. She, in not so many words, told to to get myself together; there wasn't anything wrong with me that paracetamol and time couldn't heal. *Blush* I demanded a second opinion (she was wearing bright yellow nail varnish - surely a sign that she was far too fun loving to be a serious GP) and I have one (from myself) I am dying and this is no cold it's the flu and I should be bought a puppy to make me feel better.

Anyhow, I thought I would check in here. I have loads to write up, loads!
1 - I got my camera fixed
2 - I have lots of photos and stories from weeks of market trading in Belfast (I can spin plates!)
3 - the European MTV awards were here!
4 - I am in the middle of organising the 3rd international photo swap for the Female Photographers of Etsy
5 - I opened a second shop on Etsy (good idea? or merely the fever??)
and my hubby made me a spinny card holder and I have to show it off!!!!!

So I shall get back into the blogging very soon :)

Tonight I will putting together an interview from one of my all time favourite artists and bloggers Umber Dove for your reading pleasure tomorrow. Seriously this girl has the most beautiful soul and her blog/art has been an inspiration to me for a long time now. I am rather excited that she took part in Sweet Etsy Goodness!!

Sweet Etsy Goodness - Hum with Me

Okay, okay I get it, Halloween is just around the corner and everyone is dressing up, dressing their houses up and planning spooky parties with fireworks, Pumpkins and lots of games and silliness. Well here at Cherry Blossom Tattoo Towers it just isn't like that, nope, not one bit. I have a severe throat and ear infection and can barely stay awake. Nope I am not celebrating, I am instead a Zombie (to be feared myself and looking like death). So in order to cheer myself up I am having a Sweet Etsy Good time with Hum with Me/ June in Berlin - her unbelievable cuteness will ease my tormented soul.........

Shop names are so important and personal; where did you get yours from?
It is. Mine is hmm. I like to hum a lot, if not singing, when I feel passionate about something, when I'm being creative, and when I'm happy. So, I'd like people who look at my website/shop feel the same. Hence, hum with me :)

Where do you find that you get your inspiration from?
I usually get inspired easily. Almost from everything around me. It can be beautiful shape of some leaves, lines, colours, beautiful words in lyrics. My favorite inspiration is Japanese design and its simplicity, which is so tasteful, smart and meaningful yet cute.

How do you keep up your motivation? And what is your 'art fuel'?
My motivation comes and go with the sun and the rain :) I can't tell really but sometimes I'm super motivated when it rains and when it's sunny. Snow doesn't do me good otherwise.

Do you see you art and shop as a reflection of yourself; your soul?

Wow, this is profound. LOL. I never thought of it that deep. But you can say that - yes. However, I must say I'm still at the beginning and still figuring it out. I still need loads to get it out right e.g. photos (I'm so handicapped when it comes to taking photos) etc. For now, it's probably only 50% of my soul :)

Where has this artistic journey taken you so far?
Keeping in mind that my background is in Law and Economics with a career background in diplomacy and absolutely no educational background in art, graphic design whatsoever. Plus, I have just started this path a year ago -- this has taken me quite farther than I expected; my products are now in around 35 top craft and book stores in Berlin and some more in Munich. I had 1 exhibition and 1 more to come this December, several children book project offers, commissions for product design for some shops in Berlin and private commissions and other collaborations with other artists in town.
I'm overwhelmed by the interest and the recognition I've received.

Does Art enhance your life?

It would be just a hollow sphere without it.

Can we have one pearl of wisdom you have learnt along the way?

Put yourself in others' shoes and try to walk a mile in them. And that way you a mile away..with their shoes. LOL. No. I mean put your shopper hat on and think if you would like to buy your own work. Be honest with yourself. Put your heart into it while creating. People will feel it and love it too.

How important is feedback to you?
It is important but only half important (if you know what I mean). The other half you need to feel good and believe in it first and use the feedback to enhance it. As art is very subjective, not all feedback that counts.

Are you a member of any teams on Etsy - does this help?

I'm on Etsy Internationa, Etsy Japan, Etsy Ugly Cute, Craftcount, European Street Team, Etsys deutsche Community team and also having my own team consists of shops from Europe, Asia and Australia called "we came, we saw, we bought" We are still a small group but all the shops are lovely. Check it out if you have time.

How do you feel about your life right now?

I would really like to call it "privileged" living in a city which its every corner full of history, art and design. It's easy-going and quite self-employed friendly. Full of opportunity if one knows where to look. I work at my time and my pace, being able to go out and sniff flowers when I like, see new people, enjoy the nice new design in shops as a part of work and earn money from that too. Isn't it really privileged?

Dogs or Cats?
I'm a bit controversial when it comes to this. I'm actually a dog person but knowing my own capacity I switched to cats. I've been having Oni (short from "Onion"), a Persian-Siberian cat from Moscow since 11 years and now I'm into cats too.

Sweet Etsy Goodness and a Giveaway - Amazing Beads

Sue Graham moved to Ireland nearly 11 years ago from London. She and her husband wanted an old house and land, to keep animals - lots of them, and couldn't afford to buy what they wanted in England. So I am glad to say that Ireland had just what they were looking for and now Sue is even the captain of our Esty Ireland Team! I am ashamed to say that today was the 1st time I looked at her shop and I am so impressed - there is real talent here alright!

Shop names are so important and personal; where did you get yours from?

My first shop was my Internet Bead Shop www.amazingbeads.net. My Etsy Shop followed on from that, but I kept it the same - corporate image and all that! When I was trying to think of names for my shop, I must admit that I was trying to think of something that would be good for Internet use. I was thinking with my 'marketing' hat on. I came up with 'Amazing Beads' because I like to try and source beads that are different, and therefore 'amazing', also for Google etc it was a name that starts with 'A' and 'B' the first letters of the alphabet.

Where do you find that you get your inspiration from?
I get my inspiration from everywhere. Sometimes it comes from a single bead, sometimes, when I'm working with vintage beads, I like to try and imagine who might have used the beads in their earlier life and what they might have been made into. Lately I have been buying a lot of oriental beads, and I am finding that I am inspired with the colours of the Orient. I love Morocco and those beautiful mixes of deep blues, purples, reds and topaz.

How do you keep up your motivation?

I love what I do so I never get demotivated, but I do get overloaded with stuff to do. I work lots of hours. I have an Animal Sanctuary for farm animals and birds, and my Internet shops, and then my Jewellery. I do the animal side of things in the morning, mucking out etc, then check for Internet orders of beads/jewellery that need to be posted off that day. After the animals are fed and put to bed (those that need it) in the evening, I am back working again, with Internet stuff, Etsy stuff, and making jewellery (both new designs and orders for the boutiques I supply). Sometimes I just reach overload and I have to just STOP. Only for a little while. I do gardening, or go for a walk, read. Just something completely different. Maybe an early night. Then I'm up for everything again.

Do you see you art and shop as a reflection of yourself; your soul?

Mmm ! Honestly.. I'm not that deep about it. I suppose the jewellery is in a way because I make what I feel like making, and what I think looks nice at the time I am making it.

Where has this artistic journey taken you so far?
Oh. So far. I never thought I would be doing this when I lived in London, and I love it.

Does Art enhance your life?
Definitely. I have always been artistic. I paint, sew, knit, garden, make jewellery. I could not live without art in one form or another.

Can we have one pearl of wisdom you have learnt along the way?

I think for us Arty/Crafty people that also want to try and earn a living, or even pocket money from our art, the thing is to keep on learning. There's always something new to learn. Also to stick with it. It can and does take years to get really noticed (for most artists), it doesn't happen overnight. I think making your product is easy because you love doing it, but getting it out there is another thing altogether. That's two pearls. Sorry.

How important is feedback to you?
Very, very important. Whats the point if no-one tells you how good or bad you are doing. How would you know anyone is looking?

Are you a member of any teams on Etsy - does this help?
Etsy Ireland - of course. Handmadelogy, Etsians on Facebook. I think joining teams is such a great help. You learn from other team members, get loads of tips, and get noticed too if you participate in team discussions.

How do you feel about your life right now?
Contented.. I have achieved my goals in life, and there are lots of people out there that can never say that.

Dogs or Cats?
Both. And donkeys, pigs, sheep, goats, birds of all kinds, and every other animal in the whole wide world!!!! I cannot choose one over the other.

Simon (the travelling gecko) goes to FINLAND pt2

If you are a particularly wonderful and avid reader of this blog you will remember that our dear Simon was in Finland with HeliDesigns. Last Wednesday I showed the first part of his adventure, this week it logically follows that I show you the 2nd part. Take it away dear Heli....

The rest of the time we spent in Helsinki area as I was hosting a workshop and exhibiting at Habitare 2011 Design, Furniture and Interior Decoration Fair at Helsinki Exhibition and Convention Centre on Saturday 17th September. On Thursday night Simon was ‘smuggled’ in my clutch bag to World Design Capital 2012 Helsinki Almost Opening Party where he despite of darkness and loud rhythmic disco type of music saw & heard the Mayor of Helsinki pre-opening the event and giving a speech in many languages. Simon also had a chance to taste a little bit of delicious local organic finger food; different kinds of vegetable mousses, Carelian pies, new apples and rye bread. And yes, as it was a cocktail party, he got a tiny sip from my cranberry-lime vodka drink too!
The same day we also visited Porvoo and enjoyed wandering along the cobblestone streets of old town and admiring the interiors & stock of very attractive little boutiques and the cutest timber houses & courtyards.

Habitare 2011 workshop day was great fun. During the Saturday Simon met 3 Finnish Politicians and their assistants, a glam rock band Flinch, Michelin Star Chef Jouni Törmänen, Textile Designer Sari Syväluoma, Fashion Designer & Finnish Project Runway Finalist 2010 Maria Jokela and many other expo visitors.

He checked out & approved the final quality of the 90cm long log cushion we tufted together with workshop guests and at the end of the day this gorgeous log was sold and the €5000 received from the very happy buyer, the Tapiola Insurance Company, was donated in full to the Finnish Association for Mental Health to help young people with mental health problems.

Following MEP Riikka Manner's and Finnish Parliament Member Elsi Katainen's tufting at Heli's workshop!

On following Monday Simon followed me to one magazine interview and afterwards we had great lunch at my friend’s house with her baby girl.

On the plane on Tuesday Simon told me it was such an exciting trip to do, however he was so happy to see the dear green fields of the Emerald Island from between the clouds when we were approaching Dublin. Back in Enniskerry he just greeted quickly our yard’s Monty the horse and said hello to O’Malley the ‘Landy’ cat and fell asleep in his familiar own bed. It was absolutely wonderful to meet him and I wish him lovely time on his next trip!

other people's birthdays make me happy

It's my Mamma's birthday today - hurrah!!! It's just fabulous to celebrate the life of someone you love, don't you think? I tell her I love her all the time, because I do, she's an amazing woman ~ passionate, creative, funny, oh so funny and so loving.

Well her present has just been wrapped and we will head over to see her later. We already had a gorgeous fancy meal out on Saturday and bought her a bunch of flowers that just screamed 'Mamma' (I made up the bouquet myself, I don't think the florist was used to been bossed around and told how to do her job, hehehe - she took it very well).

But I was looking on Pinterest (which is dangerous, so many hours get lost when I go there) and just fell head over heels in love with some of these birthday ideas. I love giftwrap (and balloons)....as shall become obvious fairly quickly ;p

Sweet Etsy Goodness - Yann Pendaries

A wonderfully creative and dreamy photographer, Yann Pendaries, is half French and half Czech (by his mother). He was born in the center of Franceical, and now lives right next to Paris, 10 mins from the historical center. Oh it sounds like the perfect life, exotic and romantic and in Paris!!!.....let's learn more.

(Note - this was one of the hardest shops to pick just a few stunning examples from - it is all gorgeous!)

Shop names are so important and personal; where did you get yours from?
My shop name is my real name. Being a professional photographer, I thought using my own name was the right way to go.

Where do you find that you get your inspiration from?

My inspiration mainly comes from the romantic part in me, that is, when I take strolls along Paris streets, poetic and sometimes surrealist ideas come to me, and help me transmit the way I see things to others. Also, when I am walking, I often listen to old French songs, they help me get away to another time.

How do you keep up your motivation? And what is your 'art fuel'?
Passion !!!, Passion for photography, for loving to share with others a few moments that have been fixed on camera forever, little things that may have lasted only a couple of seconds.

Do you see you art and shop as a reflection of yourself; your soul?
Yes totally. What I offer in my shop is the reflection - a sometimes naive but totally real reflection - of the world I dream of: simple, happy, beautiful, colorful, peaceful... but as the real world is not always a happy one, I try to create it in my photographs.

Where has this artistic journey taken you so far?

Everytime I print the light, it is a single beautiful journey. In one day, I can take so many journeys...

Does Art enhance your life?

Always, and especially when I admire the art of others, which fascinates me and sometimes makes me jealous :)

Can we have one pearl of wisdom you have learnt along the way?
What I have learnt is the importance of being patient. Sometimes, just for one image, you need to wait a long time for the right moment, and only then magic happens, and you have to press the button !

How important is feedback to you?
I will not hide it, it's always very flattering to receive nice comments about one's own work. It is also a genuine motivation to go on creating and make those who like my images happy.

Are you a member of any teams on Etsy - does this help?
Yes, I am a member of 5 teams and it is very helpful to be together, it also helps creating relationships within the whole world of Etsy; However, it also requires a lot of work and time.

How do you feel about your life right now?

Just happy and peaceful! Today's life is quite difficult and full of obstacles, but I do everything I can to make it soft and easy.

Simon (the travelling Gecko) goes to FINLAND

I am so excited to share this (the first part) of Heli's story of her time with Simon. Can you believe it - she took the lucky Gecko all the way to Finland!..........

Simon’s trip to Finland lasted for 17 days. He travelled about 700km along Finnish roads and railways. He also travelled about 5000km by plane, a little bit by bus and by tram and was so excited! - What a great travelling companion this little fella is!

His first destination after the flight and 4 hours on the train and a little bit of stretching his legs on Finnish country roads – don’t worry, he was very good with right hand side traffic - was my family’s summerhouse at picturesque Eastern Finnish village called Heinävesi ( ‘haywater’) by lake Kerma (‘cream’) where he was warmly welcomed by my parents.

Being a male guest, my Dad wanted to introduce Simon to his vintage tractor, a 70’s Valmet 500 to him and he let Simon to sit on the steering wheel for a while and imagine what it would be like to drive one. Simon was a bit shy to go any further and start that odd machine, so he let me drive and enjoyed a relaxing tour around the field at the back of the tractor – where he also met a little Finnish lizard girl - Oh dear, that was love at first sight, however unfortunately Miss Lizard couldn’t stay out for too long as she had to go to dinner in a fire log stack but she promised to come out next day again and for the that evening Simon just couldn’t stop talking about her and the next day I had to photograph them together at the back of the tractor again so that he could introduce her Finnish girlfriend to Mummy too.

Well, we didn’t really have too much time & thoughts for girls anymore that evening as Simon got a little bit home sick when he mentioned the word Mummy and he realized how far from home & his Mum’s bathroom he actually was, so I had to bring him to see an old Finnish farmhouse outdoor toilet “huussi” . He was super curious what kind of system this little red house kept inside and I had to grab him before he was too close to the ‘edge’…

After the bathroom visit we had to go and have a wash and Simon – as a very brave little gecko – sat on the mid seat and enjoyed the heavenly warmth of the steam room. I guess he was a bit too hot in the 80 degrees at some stage though as he run out of the door that was left a little bit open and rolled around in cool grass… he said he felt very fresh and clean after that experience though, which I interpret was very pleasant indeed.

After the sauna we made fresh apple juice of home grown apples – with almost ‘Simon flavour’ too, as again this little fella was very curious to know how this kitchen appliance works… - Gosh that apple juice was delicious and tasted lovely with sausages that Simon and my Dad cooked in the fireplace.

A belated 365 and a quick introduction

After yesterday being World Mental Health Day I think it is rather (sadly) appropriate that I tell you I had a nervous breakdown last week. I am still trying to recover though it is far from easy. So this past week is rather dull and/or obscure in terms of 'here's what I did'. So instead I shall share with you 2 really wonderful things that did happen for me and for which I am extremely glad.

Firstly I had a swap with an extremely talented artist called Makissima. I have LOVED her work since I joined the Etsy Ireland Team, though it was in the past I feel I remember it being more for children. I hope Chiara can confirm that when I eventually get round to her Sweet Etsy Goodness interview.

Anyway this is called Emathides and I am in love. I already have my beady eye on more of her work. Really, I urge you to visit her shop, such a limited palette of colour yet haunting and deeply evocative work. I am stunned that I now own a print and recently beautiful notebooks have been added to the range - this is one (gorgeous) lady to keep an eye on - I believe in her, I think she could well be the next big thing (you heard it here first!)

Plus, she is freakin' hilarious. Look at this handmade Halloween Card she sent me alongside the print. I swear I was laughing so hard I couldn't breathe and thought I may even pee a little - it lifted my spirits for a whole morning and every time I see it I smile.

The second good thing to happen this week was that Andrew and I managed to clear out the spare bedroom! It's only taken us a year *blush* but this was the dumping ground for everything we didn't have room for and until Andrew floored the roof space (which he did during the week nights) we had all sorts in there. Plus a car load of rubbish.

You literally could not get into this room and only the odd power tool at the door was accessible. Now all you see has a home in mind or more honestly is going to be taken to a car boot sale :) Yay.

Andrew also harvested all this good food from our allotment on Sunday evening and we had a delicious Pumpkin soup - sooo good

P.S. there wasn't any anti-bacterial spray in it ;)

A new side venture

It's World Mental Health Day today and as such, I wish you all the very best of health!

We can often overlook mental health in society I feel, it isn't as noticable as say, a broken leg. But boy, there are so many sufferers out there (myself included I am not ashamed to say) who require help, support and your understanding. We need to be more open, more accepting to the fact that this is an epidemic, that 1 in 4 people will have a mental health problem in their life and let me tell you, serious problems like depression (just for instance) care not about your age, social status or beliefs.

It's time to eradicate any and all stigma and be ready to talk about what goes on inside our heads.

You are not alone!

So, today is usually my 365 project but I have decided that instead - to celebrate World Mental Day, I shall embrace a new venture. Today I put my very 1st pincushion corsage up for sale on Etsy. Yes, I know I am a photographer but a dear, dear friend asked me to make her one and I could not refuse to opportunity to at least give it a try.

Well here is the finished item. Take that depression; take that double vision! I made this and I like it and so I look to the future and not to the past, the last week has been horrible.

Sweet Etsy Goodness ~ Heli Designs

Heli, of Heli Designs has recently become a good friend I am honoured to say. She hosted Simon on his adventures a few weeks ago and took him to Finland with her!! Wow, that is one lucky gecko, and we shall see the stories very soon. Ever since their return, we have been in touch and I have grown to like Heli as a person and not just love her amazing, creative designs on Etsy. She is such a lovely lady and so full of passion and fun I dare you not to fall in love yourself.......

*** What is your name and where do you come from?

My name is Heli Maritta Miikkulainen-Gilbert - nightmarish, I know! ;) - and I come from Finland. I'm married to an Irishman, which explains the Gilbert at the end

*** Shop names are so important and personal; where did you get yours from?

I'm afraid this isn't too exciting; I wanted to use my first name as my shop name, however it was already booked (Heli is very common girl's name in Finland) and obviously there was a Finnish Etsian who opened her shop first. Despite me being in Ireland I couldn't duplicate the shop name, so I registered it as HeliDesigns

*** Where do you find that you get your inspiration from?

Nature and lots of existing stuff - clothing, interiors, everyday routines, good quality and functionality, also intelligent stuff & vintage in many forms inspires me.

*** How do you keep up your motivation?

Going to fashion & design related events as often as I can and seeing what other artists do and achieve kicks me up to try to do the same. I also love my product and believe in it.

*** And what is your 'art fuel'?For the fuel, the feedback received from normal fellow citizens - neighbours, lady at supermarket check-out, friend's husband,... is essential. I show my products - even unfinished - to everyone who enters our house - sorry all, anyways you always get a lovely cuppa too! ;) - and ask them to give me feedback. As I'm working alone most of the days it's very important to get other people's opinions on my work and if it's a dull day and I'm not very happy with the item and am unsure what to do next to get it work, the outsiders' opinions & suggestions really help in product development.

My cat Kisu used to be my Muse and very significant art fuel for many years, however he sadly passed away last autumn after being seriously sick for some time. I haven't managed to find a new Muse yet, so there's a tiny little hole in my fuel tank at the moment, but I'm sure some day it'll be fixed; I keep looking. Meanwhile all other things that I love keep me creating. :)

*** Do you see you art and shop as a reflection of yourself; your soul?

I haven't really thought of this before, however, now you're asking I'd say yes; my products are the reflections of myself - time doesn't matter, they're warm and functional, they are of good quality and honesty that I try to deliver in any event of my life. They're also a little bit witty and very importantly animal friendly.

*** Where has this artistic journey taken you so far?
My coats have been exhibited in 4 countries: Iceland, Finland, Ireland and Northern Ireland. My accessories have been received warmly and proved to be great every day wearables by Irish & Finnish shoppers. My different kind of interior decoration collection & traditional rya rug sewing technique workshop also were a great success at Habitare 2011 Design, Furniture & Interior Decoration Fair in Finland in September which brought me some very nice commissions & visibility in Finnish medias. (Simon was at that too!)

*** Does Art enhance your life?

Yes, couldn't live without art & design! I spent I thnk the most boring 2 years of my life at Business School where I naturally learnt very useful things but it was very difficult for me to cope with only numbers & very sterile class room day after day. One day then I brought my knitting needles and some yarn to the class with me and instantly found studying much more pleasant - crafts and chatting go together so well and you remember things much better when you for example can use a stripe of certain colour in your work as help...;) The teachers didn't mind me knitting during the lessons either which was great. (I LOVE this answer)

*** Can we have one pearl of wisdom you have learnt along the way?

Be yourself and always do a little bit more than your best.

*** How important is feedback to you?
Everything! Both positive and negative are essential, how else would one learn from his/her mistakes

*** Are you a member of any teams on Etsy - does this help?

I'm a member of Etsy Ireland Team and meeting up & being in touch with other fellow designers & crafters helps lots as in their company you can 'speak the same crafty language' and share the knowledge you have & learn new things from the others. Working together towards common goals is also more fun than doing it alone.

*** How do you feel about your life right now?

Life is just great today, thanks! I'm very grateful for being busy with some commissions at the moment and for all my loved ones being well.

Cats, of course! :)

365 project - week 20

Can you believe it - October! The blasted winter is just around the corner and today I have gone into hibernation, sort of, in a 'I just can not be bothered' way. The day has been grey and I have just slept basically until now - I guess we could predict that next weeks Monday photo will be very boring indeed, haha.

So week 20 then...
Day 129 (Monday)
I worked hard at the allotment, putting off dinner for an hour and a half :) Look at those working hands - dirty even though I was wearing gloves.

Day 130 (Tuesday)

The migraine from hell - Tuesday is a blurr, I swear I lost a day. It threw me for the rest of the week!

Day 131 - (Wednesday)
An amazing package arrived from Jana of Helmitarha jewellery. Oh no you don't - you ain't seeing what' s inside because I haven't decided if I am going to keep this beauty or give it to my friend who I think it would look gorgeous on.... The chocolate was divine ;) Love to you Jana xx

Day 132 (Thursday)

I thought it was Wednesday all day today - so confusing :p

The best way to start any day is a surprise gift!! This came from the gorgeous Heli of HeliDesigns who had just hosted my dearest Simon (the Gecko). I LOVE it and it has become my special market/fair moneybox keyring :) Big Hugs Heli x

(b) - I also got the chance later in the day to go up the coast and visit Dunluce Castle whilst my hubby was working there. I lovely sky up there and hyper definition on the camera just makes it better!

Day 133 (Friday)
This was a HUGE day for me. I walked up to my Allotment with Maggie :) I wasn't even scared. Though as the next photo shows - it rained a lot and we didn't even have the chance to work a little while. Nevermind it was big achievement for me.

Day 134 (Saturday)
Oh dear god when will the rain stop?!!! This was taken in a plant nursery which had just opened up it's bloody Christmas shop! What??? The 1st flipping day of October and we're thinking of Christmas trees and silly songs. NO thank you; I am only just accepting that Summer is over.

Day 135 (Sunday)
Today was a bit different at the Market - it was packed full of traders! Tim was on my right with his gorgeous smoothies and on my left I had, for the first time, a juggler! I was seriously afraid that he doing to be a clown and get the make-up on but no - phew!! I have a pathological fear of clowns, quite frankly I would not have been responsible for my actions... He was great with kids, even the rowdy ones.

I adore colour and feel deep within me that there is a fabulous painter inside just bursting to come out. Unfortunately when I have tried painting, it is TERRIBLE, I mean just awful, in my mind it ought to look like the lady's work we are to meet today. I guess I shall just have to admit, there is only one Lindy Gruger Hanson, I shall never live up to her :)

** Shop names are so important and personal; where did you get yours from?
My shop name comes from a combination of my last names.

** Where do you find that you get your inspiration from?

I get my inspiration from the world around me. This can include inspiration from nature, birds, symbols, dreams, the written word, color and texture to name a few items.

** How do you keep up your motivation? And what is your 'art fuel?’

I have an active imagination and that is what keeps me motivated and what I tap into for creating my art. I like to have a work space with good lighting and space to lay my work flat as I paint with the work either on a table or flat on the floor. I love the inspiration of color, texture, pattern and light in art and it fuels my imagination.

** Do you see your art and shop as a reflection of yourself; your soul?

My art is definitely a reflection of the uplifting, positive spirit that I feel in my soul. I like to think my shop reflects that. (Ah there we have it, my soul has a natural tendancy to be morose - I now have an excuse for my bad painting efforts)

** Where has this artistic journey taken you so far?

It's taken me to places that were once only in my imagination. I have always wanted to make my living from art and that is what I do.

** Does Art enhance your life?
Oh yes, Art is a big part of my life and enhances it so much! I love art and like to surround myself with it as well as create it.

** Can we have one pearl of wisdom you have learnt along the way?

It's about balance. I love making art and taking time for it and I'm very grateful for the opportunities that have come my way.

** How important is feedback to you?
I love getting feedback in my Etsy Shop. I like to know people are satisfied with their purchase and also to find out if I can help them further if they need something special like a different size or an image cropped differently for a custom print.

** Are you a member of any teams on Etsy - does this help?
I recently joined the Bend, Oregon Team but haven't participated very much with them so can't really say it has helped me yet.

** How do you feel about your life right now?

I'm very happy with my life. I'm living with the love of my life, who is also an artist. He creates raku pottery. We love to travel and explore new places which inspires our art. I'm loving every minute!

a few new pieces from France

I haven't done a great deal of photographic work since I came home from my hols (oops!). The allotment, Maggie the wonder dog and housework have been taking up my time and of course I have had to, simply had to read lots of blogs and catch up on anything and everything I missed. I would like to think I can live without technology but *whisper it* I was climbing the walls without my laptop whilst away, so I couldn't review and tweak my work until now, but now I have loads I want to do :)

Anyway, here are a few pieces that will go into the etsy shop soon. I adore old, rusty and decaying things (yes, I am so very girlie, hahaha) and so a couple of boat graveyards really tickled my photography button.

There shall be more to come but here we go...

365 project - week 19

Is it really only week 19? Wow. Well here's another week in my super exciting life, haha....

Day 122 (Monday)

Hurrah! no more itchy mosquito bites for me. Though they are still huge and ugly, at least I'm not tearing at my arm all the time. Bliss....

Day 123 (Tuesday)
A really big order of my photographic greetings cards (4 packs of 3) sells on Etsy to the lovely Rosemary. I am so happy; the Etsy shop has been quite quiet these past few weeks :)

Day 124 (Wednesday)

Not feeling well at all. Luckily the hubby is working nearby and takes me out for a coffee at lunch time and buys me a lovely little rose, awwww. Love him.

Day 125 (Thursday)

Still not well so hubby takes me on nice long drive into the countryside and we collect conkers. I love taking them out of their jackets, they are so smooth and shiny.

Day 126 (Friday)

Feeling a bit better and we work in the Allotment after dinner. Here are some of our very own apples :)

Day 127 (Saturday)
A gloriously sunny day on the Allotments. We worked so hard and weeded, cut back plants, harvested, cut grass, composted old plants. Total body work out and it was great. Far too many of these HUGE slugs though - gross, yuck! And yes that is my hand - I am so brave.

First Sunday back at St George's Market Belfast and rocking the place, hahaha.

I'll never forget you...ever

New into the shop last night...

'A creepy cute doll found, dirty and unwanted on a shelf in a Breton brocante. I loved the idea that she had been left there but was still obessed with her old owner and was waiting, just waiting to see them again. She would never forget them, never ever.'

I took this in that brocante I showed you on Tuesday's 365 picture, in Treguier, Brittany. Good grief I love that place and there are a couple of other cute/creepy toys coming soon - this is just the one that really makes me giggle. I think it would be great as a large print or a greetings card for that fave friend you want to tell you will always love, hahahaha.

Sweet Etsy Goodness - 'My Rubber Stamp'

'My Rubber Stamp' is one of my favourite shops in the world of Etsy and I am so excited that they were willing to take part in my series of interviews! I have always been in love with stationary, ALWAYS wanted my own address stamp or monogram (I was one of those kids that utterly adored going back to school shopping and even get excited by pens and notebooks now - plus I have 6 penpals at the moment) and I won one of Ian and Eunice's gorgeous stamps recently! (Everything gets stamped now with my name and address). So, here is there interview and forgive me, it is longer than usual but I am so excited I couldn't bare to edit it much *blush*.......

**What is your name and where do you come from?

We are Ian Lim & Eunice Wang ( I wish I was related to Vera Wang!). We are originally from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia we are now residing in Houston, Texas with our daughter, Mya.

**Shop names are so important and personal; where did you get yours from?

I got my shop name – MyRubberStamp from a customized gift with my name and address on a stamp, and that was given to me by my husband back in 2006. By then, I had already indulged myself into crafts and many artistic ideas, the only difference was, I have decided to make crafts and stamps to a more personal level. Hence, my husband and I have come up with the name of “MyRubberStamp,” in order for people to own something more personal for themselves.

**Where do you find that you get your inspiration from?  

To be honest, our inspiration has never stopped. Ever since our youth, we have loved designs and colors. While we were in a long-distant relationship (Malaysia & USA) approximately 5-6 years ago, we always loved to communicate with each other through cards and letters. When we had our daughter, we were really surprised at how entertained we were by the little cutely-designed toys. Moreover, we have always realized that we are a very creative and curious couple.

**How do you keep up your motivation? And what is your 'art fuel'?

I must say that will be my mom. She is my motivation, she is the strongest and the kindest women I’ve ever met so far (love you mom). Our motivation comes from our passions in travelling, we love to see the world and we got a long list for our future plan, I mean a really long one.

Our art fuel is creativity. I can never stand constant and stagnant lifestyles. I need to have a change once in a while in my surroundings. That is why I am constantly adding or moving stuffs around our house, which drives my husband crazy. As far as our shop, I am also constantly coming up with new designs as often as possible.

**Do you see you art and shop as a reflection of yourself; your soul?

Definitely. Every piece of art that we have made reflects how much patience and creativity we have. We are very proud of each and every piece of them, because once we have started something; we would always make sure they turn out with the best possible result. Our shop definitely has a lot to say about us that most people do not know. It was really a rocky road for us at the beginning back in 2006. Business was not as good as expected, everything just did not turned out as well as we desired, but as time went by, we gradually fixed our weakness and considered many marketing factors, and here we are today – not the best but on par to where we have always wanted our very own shop to be.

**Where has this artistic journey taken you so far?

It has taken us too far to be imagined. Growing up as a child, we have never thought that we would be so indulged into art. What is better than waking up and doing something that you like everyday, like we do?

**Does Art enhance your life?

Yes. Without art, there is no taste to life. Life would be so stagnant and boring.

**Can we have one pearl of wisdom you have learnt along the way?   
We have learned that staying on track with your goals is the most important thing in life. Until back in 2006, we were so determined to start our own business, and stick to it till it becomes successful. We started to be a very strong believer of “If there is a will, there is a way” and we made it!

**How important is feedback to you?

Extremely important. Without feedback, we are totally with no direction. We cherish all the feedbacks from our clients and we love our clients =)

**How do you feel about your life right now?

We are quite pleased with where we are right now. We have got everything we need – a good family, a lovely home, and a job that does not require us to go through the heavy traffic in the city of Houston. What about working in your pajamas? Most importantly, we love what we are doing everyday!

**Dogs or Cats?
Dogs. We adopted a Australian Shepherd puppy from SPCA lately and her name is Yuhoo, we love her companion esp my baby girl, she is all over the moon ever since Yuhoo came back with us =)

before i left for France

It all happened out of the blue one Sunday during the Market. A man in a bright yellow t-shirt kept walking past my stall and (forgive the pun) stalling to look at some of my work. I hadn't anyone on the table next to me for a change so A. put out some extra pieces to make it look better and this gent would pause there, out of the way. It was odd because it happened quite a few times and I could see him very clearly going round the market in circles; his shirt was so noticeable.

Then he was behind the stall and at my side; golly what a shock that was! This was David from Sultan Delights, the Turkish Delight stall and he had a question. This is the stuff wee dreams, such as I have (I'm not overly ambitious in life), are made off. He wanted me to do some product photography work for him! I was floating on cloud 9 as we walked over to his stall and I saw his sweeties. The next day he bought a few boxes over to my house...hahaha (they sell a good selection of flavours).

It took a couple of weeks to get it just right and David visited me a few times to see what I had come up with. Excitingly I had been given Cart Blanche, apart from some regulation sizes and guidelines from the websites he was hoping to join. I got covered in icing sugar, spend days in my studio high on the sugar dust I was inhaling and surrounded my colour, wonderful colours.

I did a set of close ups and a set of themed photos for each of the 11 delicious (sounding) flavours. It was bloomin' lucky I am not a fan of Turkish Delight or the whole project could have ended up with me dancing around the house hyper with icing sugar all over my face and in my hair, all those boxes empty and a slightly sore tummy!!

Anyway I am very pleased to point you in the direction of Sultan Delights' website and my photos!!! I have my fingers crossed that they will pop up elsewhere and that the business really takes off. :)

365 - The lost weeks in France - part 2

So to conclude and get us bang up to date (ie last Sunday), here are the daily photos from last week. We had moved up to the North of Brittany by this stage and were much more relaxed, staying in an area we knew well.....

Week 18
Day 115 (Monday)
A 'salty sea dog' that befriended me on a beach which was also a commercial mussel growing 'farm'. She was lovely and very interested in my camera (I had nose marks all over the lens and my glasses).

Day 116 (Tuesday)
This a little part of the gorgeous Chateau de la Roche-Jagu, a delightful place with extensive gardens and amazing views. We never pay to go in, just dander about and then have a wee sit down (very old souls).

Day 117 (Wednesday)

One of my favourite places in the whole world - a HUGE brocante in Treguier, this is just one teeny tiny part of it. You can find pretty much anything in there = hours of fun :)

Day 118 (Thursday)
St Guirrec beach near to the town of Puerros- Guirrec. The tide was right out this time and the private Chateau could almost be walked right up to, so tempting to go nosey ;) This is part of the famous Granite Rose Coast.

Day 119 (Friday)
Can't accuse us of not being posh, hahaha. This was a late lunch/early dinner in the town of Paimpol.

Day 120 (Saturday)
This is NOT pee!! It's lovely local cidre (or cider) which we drank out of traditional bowls in the town of Roscoff, which surprised us by having a medieval core with lots of lovely shops. It's so much more than a ferry port.

Day 121 (Sunday)
On our way home, driving up from Rosslare to Belfast. Just in case you've never seen it before - this is the border between the Republic and Northern Ireland! Yellow lines at the side of the road = Eire and White = Home. So different from when I was a kid.

365 - the lost weeks in France pt 1

As you may remember I have been away in France for the past 2 weeks and so I haven't been online. Of course it was once I got to the two separate parts we were staying in that I found out there was free WI-FI! Darn it to heck, I could have been keeping up to date with you. Well, it's Monday and thus 365 project day; here is the first of the last 2 weeks then for your delectation...

Week 17
Day 108 (Monday)
The more relaxed and pebbly beach at Benodet - utterly delightful

Day 109 (Tuesday)
Eating wonderful, fresh crepes in the 'Place du Buerre', Quimper. God I love crepes, this one is just butter and sugar :)

Day 110 (Wednesday)
Two of the most adorable French ladies just sitting outside the church watching the tourists visit their wee harbour town.

Day 111 (Thursday)
Just one of the bottles of Bordeaux we drank - did we drink too much whilst on holiday? Well, it's such a good price it would have been criminal not to drink the red wine and surely it counts as one of your 5 a day, right?? Yummm wine.....

Day 112 (Friday)
A visit to the very famous and huge archaeological site of Carnac. Personally I found it a bit wick as we were fenced off, there weren't any guided tours and the weather was poor.

Day 113 (Saturday)
We move up to northen Brittany and 'Plage Bonaparte'; an extremely important and very beautiful beach. Canadian soldiers were rescued here during the 2nd World War by the RAF, with the help of the local French Resistance.

Day 114 (Sunday)
The outdoor swimming pool is a little overwhelmed here in St Puerros - Guirec

Remember this girl, the BBC test card that used to be on in the mornings before the day's schedule began? :)

Well I am off on my holidays to Brittany and am thus putting up my test card - service shall resume on the 25/26th of Septmeber. I shall be taking 3 cameras with me so there shall be a couple of holiday snaps to share ;) Hopefully I will have some nice stories to tell you, 3 weeks worth of my 365 project and I already have the utterly fabulous My Rubber Stamp interview on the Friday after my return!

So fear not, I'll be back soon enough.

A NOTE FROM JESSIE THE SPINNING WHEEL

"My quiet world was invaded by a small, spotty, bubbly, inquisitive wee gecko and it will never be the same again.

Mo of the gentle hands is a quiet soul who listens to soothing music as she spins and that was my world...... before...... once the envelope was opened there was no turning back.

While he was here I had to be on high alert as you would never know where he might turn up.

Still despite everything I will miss the little dote - his hunger for knowledge made us learn how and why we do what we do all over again. His excitement for life was infectious and as we wish him well on his continuing adventure he leaves a gap ...... Oh peace, perfect peace......Sigh!!!!!!

~ Hahahaha - seems my little Gecko has been excitable in Dublin with Mo, he does seem to love the art of knitting and spinning wool, plus he appears to have had time relaxing in the garden too. The photos are super small but beautiful - that's due to the Etsy messaging system.
